T TWO - Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, August I, 1990 Weddings BMCC offers Life Support classes The Blue Mountain Community College Continuing Education Department is offering a course for people interested in becoming in structors for Basic Life Support classes. The course will be offered August 22, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Health Education Building, room 115. The course will prepare the Basic Life Support provider to teach aspects of Basic Cardiac Life Sup port using current methods of adult education. The course follows ap proved American Heart Association and Oregon affiliated BLS task force guidelines. Participants in the course are re quired to hold a current AHA Basic Life Support Card. There is a 90 day grace period allowed after expiration of the card. A copy of the current card must accompany registration and be brought to class. Cost for the class is $35, which in cludes lunch and instru cto r’s manual; the fee must accompany registration. Class size is limited to 16. BMCC special service dept, closed McElligott — Romano Grace McElligott and John Romano were married in an April 21, 1990 ceremony at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Heppner. Father Dominic Hahn and Father Thomas Parker of San Francisco officiated. Grace is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry McElligott of lone. John is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Romano of Bellevue, Wa. The bride wore a white taffeta off-the-shoulder gown she made herself with re-embroidered lace and appliqued sequins and pearls. Maid of honor was Terri Smith, Seattle, friend of the bride. Bridesmaids were Jamie Frost, Missoula, Mt., and the bride’s sisters Janet McElligott, Washington, D.C., Patty McElligott, Helena, Mt., and Bridget McElligott, lone. Best man was Jeff Monda, friend of the groom, Seattle. Groomsmen were Todd Prodzinski, Seattle, friend of the groom, and the groom’s brothers, Stephen Romano, Little Rock, AK., Bob Romano, Tourret Sur Loup, France, and Jim Romano, Eugene. Flower girls were Maureen and Julia Romano. Seattle, Wa., nieces of the groom. Ring Bearer was William McElligott, nephew of the bride. Musician was Rikka Tews, of lone. Soloist was Terry McElligott, Newberg, sister of the bride. A reception and dance was held at the lone Legion Hall. The couple took a month-long wedding trip to Italy and southern France. The bride completed her undergraduate work at Carroll College at Helena, Mt., and received her M.D. degree at the University of Washington Medical School in Seattle. She is doing her residency in family medicine at San Ber- nadina Medical Center at San Bemadino. The groom did his undergraduate work at Whitman College at Walla Walla, Wa., and received his M.D. degree at the U of W Medical School. He is also doing his residency at San Bemadina Medical Center. Cattlem en, CattleW omen to meet in Ontario Cattle producers from throughout the state will be in Ontario, Aug. 21-23 for the quarterly meeting of the Oregon Cattlemen’s Association and the Oregon CattleWomen. Featured speakers will be Cliff Bentz. an attorney who is a specialist on water rights, and Leigh Ann Wyatte, Oregon State FFA speaking champion. Also on the program is Eric Davis, regional vice president o f the National C attlem en’s Association. Cattlemen will begin their first round of committee meetings at 8 a.m. Aug. 22. The board meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m. with a special barbecue and western dance schedul ed that night at the Malheur County Fairgrounds. The Cattlemen and CattleWomen organizations have also scheduled board meetings the morning of Aug. 23. As a prelude to the business meetings, Oregon State yniversity extension agent Mike Howell has scheduled a golf tournament and tours for those who arrive on Aug. 21. Reservations for the events may be made by contacting Howell at the OSU Extension office in Ontario. OCA has mailed registration material regarding the meeting to its members. Further information may be obtained by contacting the OCA office in Portland. The quarterly meeting will be held at the Tapadera Inn, 725 Tapadera Ave. in Ontario. Doherty — Smith Karen Renee Smith of Spokane, Wa., and Ronald Clayton Doherty of Heppner were married in a double-ring ceremony June 30. 1990, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Spokane. The reverend Phillip Mueller performed the ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Barbara Melville of Spokane and Bruce Smith of Snohomish, Wa. The groom’s parents are Billie Van Arsdale and Gene Doherty both of Heppner. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a taffeta gown covered with tiers of ruffled chantilly lace and embroidered lace sleeves. The sheer lace back was accented with simulated pearls. The hair piece was of white silk flowers and simulated pearls. She carried a traditional bouquet of pink roses, freesia, baby’s breath and fern. The maid of honor was Maria Griffin and the flower girl was Sarah Shryack both of Spokane. Best man was Robert Osbourne of Irrigon. Ring bearer was Paul Shryack of Spokane and the attendants were the bride’s brothers, Alan Smith and Marc Melville, both of Spokane. A reception followed the ceremony at the Holiday Inn in Spokane. The bride is a graduate of Shadle Park High School and Spokane Com munity College. She is currently attending Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Wa. She is employed by the city of Spokane. The bridegroom is a graduate of Heppner High School. He is employed by Alloy Trailers in Spokane. After a wedding trip to the Oregon Coast, the couple lives in Spokane, Wa With the completion of summer term, August will be pretty quiet at Blue Mountain Community College. Several special service departments will be closed all or part of that month. Within the Basic Skills Depart ment, the Adult Basic Education (GED, ESL, Adult High School Diploma) program will be closed Ju ly 30 through September 14. Developmental Education will be closed July 30 through September 24. The library will be closed August 13 through September 3. From September 4 through the 25, hours will be 8 to noon, and 1 to 5 p.m. R egular hours will resume September 26. The Admissions and Counseling offices are open throughout the school year. Summer hours are 7;30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Regular hours will resume Monday, August 13. ___Births Anthony John Tudor IH-a son, Anthony John was bom to Anthony and Tracy Tudor of Irrigon on July 16, 1990 at Good Shepherd Hospital in Hermiston. The baby weighed 8 lbs 8 ozs. KaSandra Anastasia Marie Hurford-a daughter KaSandra Anastasia was born to Valerie Louise Runion of Irrigon on July 22, 1990 at Good Shephed Hospital in Hermiston. The baby weighed 6 lbs. 14 ozs. Alice graduated from Stanford University at Palo Alto, Ca., with a degree in human biology. Mark graduated from Drew University at Madison, New Jersey, with a degree in political science and philosophy. They were Peace Corps volunteers in the Central African Republic, with Alice returning in 1990 and Mark in 1989.
