Members of the family of Jessie Olden Henderson attending this year were: Lonnie and LaVerne Hender son and Larry Henderson, Hood R iver; Betty M acTavish and Marissa, Gresham; Grant and Helen Henderson and Lynn Henderson. Lexington and Barbara Rugg, Pilot Rock. lone Insight S By Anrte Morter, Mori 422-7429 -:-Mr. and Mrs. Leo Crabtree traveled to Seattle on June 28, to at tend a retirement dinner for their son, Ron Crabtree. Ron retired from the Seattle Fire Department after 25 years. About 125 people attended the party in his honor. -:-Ione had many out of town visitors over the Fourth of July. Mr. and Mrs Bill Busby of Seattle at tended the festivities and visited with friends. Mrs. Busby grew up in lone and attended lone High School. -Kenneth Bond, son of Mr. and Mrs. Neal Bond, traveled from Ken newick with a friend to take in the day’s activities. -:-Linda Prock and friend Mike Edwards, of Portland visited her parents. Dot and Lewis Halvorsen, also taking in the celebration. -:-Dot Halvorsen drove the Senior Citizens bus to Wells Springs on the evening of the Fourth. Fifteen peo ple took the tour to the historic site -:-Irene Crabtree became a great aunt again when her niece, Mary Ann Murphy gave birth to a 9 lb. 10 oz. baby girl recently. The proud parents named their new addition Jordan Renae Murphy. -:-Bob and Deena (Hams) Barger are the proud parents of an 8 lb. 8 oz. girl, Hailey Diane. The baby was bom in Lincoln City where the Bargers now live. Maternal grand parents are Wayne and Diana Hams and the maternal great-grandmother is Helen Pettyjohn. Hailey was born on July 4 and was 21” long. -:-Ruth McCabe is entertaining her granddaughter, Lisa Berry, for a few days while she and her father. Ron Berry , visit the area. The Ber rys are from Burner. North Carolina. Ron’s parents live in Hermiston and they are spending time in both places. -:-Fire Chief, Jim Boor and Ashley McCabe traveled to Marion County last weekend where they bought two fire trucks for the rural fire district. The district’s fleet now numbers five vehicles with the ad dition of the 1968 Ford F850, which pumps 750 gallons per minute and carries 1,000 gallons and a 1977 Seagraves, which pumps 1250 gallons per minute and carries 1.000 gallons. -:-The lone Youth Group is plan ning a trip to the river near Board- man on Sunday, July 15. All lone students, including 1990 grads and incoming freshmen, are invited to at tend a day of swimming and water skiing. Hot dogs and paper products will be provided and each family is asked to bring a salad or dessert. For more information, contact Cathy Halvorsen at 422-7107. -:-Mark McElligott and Elizabeth Allen attended the United Church of Christ Bible Camp at Camp Adams July 5-7. -:-Visiting at the home of Joe and Jeri McElligott July 2-8 were Jeri’s niece and nephew, Adam and Brooke Weeber of Eugene. • -:-Mr. and Mrs. Milton Morgan recently returned from a two-week cruise to Alaska. They sailed on the S.S. Rotterdam, visiting Juneau, Sitka and Fairbanks, among other spots, before flying home. Forrest Burkenbine, Fire Chief Ruth Locust Chapter No. 32 Order of the Eastern Star will hold an open installation ceremony for their 1990-1991 officers Sunday, Ju ly 15, at 2:30 p.m. at the Heppner Masonic Hall. The installing officer will be Virginia Wilkinson, past grand matron of Grand Chapter of Oregon Assisting will be Dick Wilkinson, in stalling grand patron, Lauree Marvel of Hermiston, installing grand mar shal; G. Ann Thomas of Pendleton, installing grand chaplain and Mabel Gimbel of Hermiston, installing grand organist. Refreshments will be served after the installation. All members, families and friends are welcome to attend. Wranglers to sponsor ride Wranglers Riding Club is once again sponsoring a day ride for anyone interested in taking a ride through the mountains on July 21. More information will be in next week’s paper. Washington. -:-Joe and Hilda Yocom spent the weekend in Enterprise where they attended a softbaH tournament Lcland Jones, a son-in-law was one of the players. -:-Marie Steagall recently attend ed the Breshears family reunion at Maryhill park. This is a yearly af fair and there were about 40 people present. The Breshears sisters, besides M arie, are Edwina Richelderfer of The Dalles. Helen Crump of the Hood River area and Vera Steagall of the Portland area. Also attending were Boh and Bever ly Steagall. Pat and Jerry Dougher ty. She is a resident from Vancouver, Wa. the hospital solarium on June 28, complete with brides, bridesmaids, flower girls and ring bearers, but no grooms. Andrew Jam es Romans-a son, Andrew Jam es, was born to Stephanie Romans of Irrigon on June 27, 1990 at Good Shepherd Hospital in Hermiston. The baby weighed 7 lbs. 12 ozs. The institute will provide valuable infor mation to practicing educational in terpreters as well as anyone in con tact with a hearing impaired in dividual. Classes begin Friday. Ju ly 6 and continue through Fridav. Ju ly 27. Courses include interpreting theory (beginning, intermediate and advanced) manually coded English. American sign language also known as ASL (beginning and in termediate). language development and facilitation, combining signing exact English (S.E.F..) and ASL topics in special education and tutor- ing and instructional practices. The summer training institute has been offered for several years and has recently received national en dorsement and recognition from the Conference of Educational Ad ministrators serving the Deaf, Inc. Classes will be taught by staff of the ESD's Program for Hearing Im paired and three outside instructors representing the Washington State School for the Deaf, Portland Com munity College and Orange County Unified School District in Califor nia.
