Team scramble played at Country Club While many of us would like to retire the term couch potato (for one thing, it’s unfair to potatoes), resear chers are confirming the existence of the phenomenon it describes, being glued to the sofa and TV, remote control in one hand, potato chips in the other, is indeed strongly associated with being overweight and out of shape. Heavy viewers become, alas, 'heavy' viewers. Men who watch television for at least three hours a day are twice as likely to be obese as those who watch less than an hour, according to research performed last year at Auburn University in Alabama. Earlier studies reached similar conclusions about children and teenagers. For instance, in 1985 Dr. William Dietz of the New England Medical Center in Boston found that the prevalence of obesity in teens in creased by about two percent for each hour of daily TV viewing habits, and experts anticipate similar results. Tuesday June 5, Willow Creek Ladies Club played on a team scram ble course setup with obstacles with 26 members and 11 guests. 676-9158 Make Dad Feel GR-R-R-E-A-T W ith a G ift from G a rd n e r’s -~*v Panhandle Slim PROUD AMERICAN Nobody knows more about men's western shirts and pants than Panhandle Slim. FINLAND — 7 he unexpected weight loss experienced by members of a test group has puzzled medical researchers at a leading Finnish ..ii- versitv. Scientists were testing a nat urally-occurring compound for its ability to lower blood cholesterol lev els when, to their surprise, they found that every person who took the form ula had lost a significant amount of weight. The formula was then tested at another prestigious European uni versity hospital. Again, all patients lost weight even though they did not change their eating habits. The report detailing this study, published in the British Journal of Nutrition, stated: “ Body weight was signifi cantly reduced even though the patients were specifically asked not to alter their dietary habits.” t **************************************** NO charge, however, donations welcome * Murray Rexall Drugs, 217 N.
