SWCD sprays for hemlock
The Soil and Water Conservation
District has been spraying for water
hemlock along the creek banks as a
public service.
Janet Greenup of SWCD says that
they have sprayed because the plant
is poisonous to the touch and a
hazard of children playing along the
creek.
Greenup says that the city of
Heppner pays for the chemicals for
spraying._________________

On Saturday April 20, the Hepp
ner Mustangs played the Umatilla
Vikings in a double header.
The Mustangs jumped out to a
quick 2 to 0 lead in the first inning.
Russell Britt hit an RBI double that
scored Bob Krein and later scored on
a Umatilla error. Eric Connor and
Jason Britt scored in the fourth inn
ing to give the Mustangs a 4 to 0
lead. That is all the Mustangs would
score, but with Russell Britt on the
mound pitching a six-hit shutout, that
is all the Mustangs needed. The final
score was Heppner 4 and Umatilla 0.
In the second game the Mustangs
found themselves down 5 to 0 after
three complete innings. Then in the
fourth inning the Mustangs scored
two runs, both walks with the bases
loaded. Umatilla got three more runs
in the fifth inning, making the score
Heppner, 2, and Umatilla, 8. The
Mustangs picked up two more runs
in the bottom of the fifth and in the
bottom of the sixth scored five runs.
The lead was the first lead of the
game for the Mustangs, but that was
all they needed for the win.
