They will skip, hop and jump in a three hour Jump Rope For Heart event to raise funds for the American Heart Association. Jump Rope for Heart is sponsored by the O regon A llia n c e fo r H ealth, Physical Education. Recreation and Dance to benefit the A H A ’ s pro grams o f cardiovascular education and research. Teacher, Lea Calvert, will coor dinate the event, which will be held in the junior high school gymnasium from 4 to 7 p.m. In preparation for Jump Rope for Heart, the jumpers are learning how to keep their own hearts fit through aerobic exercise. Done regularly, rope jumping can improve en durance and muscle tone, relieve stress and control weight. Special educational materials for schools are available from A H A to supplement the Jump Rope for Heart program. Last year, 170 elementary and middle schools raised more than '200,000 during Jump Rope for Heart events throughout Oregon. More than 200 Oregon schools are expected to participate this year, which is the 11th anniversary o f Jump Rope for Heart in Oregon and the nation. Since it began in 1979. Jump Rope for Heart has involved almost five million teachers and students nationwide.
