Farm bureau meeting February 18
To the Rdtlor
In November I hud the privilege
ot being .1 delegate to the Oregon
I arm Bureau annual meeting held in
Portland and enjoyed it ver> mu.h
as I have many others I ’ ve attended
over the years There were several
good speakers in.hiding Clinton
Reeder of the Wheat league and
others on items of interest and per
taming to problems and ideas
relating to agriculture I arm Bureau
works much on legislative matters on
both state and national levels as well
as many other items attesting or in
solving farmers and tjrm problems
I be organization has often been call
ed the wul.hdog lor agriculture
There w ». much discussion at the
meeting from farm er* from all over
the state and while there was
sometimes strong disagreement
Disband LCDC
among some on the issues wc lecl
that overall it was a very good and
informative session
For many years the members o f
both Morrow and I inatilla Counties
have been united in one group
known as l inatilla and M orrow
County Farm Bureau meeting in
Pendleton but now it looks like time
to divide with each county having a
separate meeting so there w ill be a
meeting and dinner in lleppner
February I 8 to try and set up a M> r
row County group and elect officers
and tend to other organizational
business
Ibc meeting w ill be a dinner
meeting at I p m on Sunday. Feb
IH. at the I Iks Todgc in Hcppncr
Hope many o f you .an make it

T o the C ditor
Recently I attended a meeting ot
the 1 .and Conservation and Develop
ment Commission tl.C IK T I was
appalled to learn that o f fie lals elected
by the taxpayers of ( )rcgon to listen
ami help citizens solve problems,
had appointed a group who does not
listen or take legitimate protests and
inform ation into account, and then
tells citizens what they can and can
not do with their property
T h e re have been p re vio u s
meeting* at which hundreds of pro
perty owners voiced their opinions
and strong protests against the tighter
rules the I C l X ' is trying to enact in
to laws The I CDC passed them
regardless These rules arc against
the < )rcgon State Constitution which
guarantees personal property rights
Over halt ot our state is federally or
state owned It the I CDC wants to
tell federal and state officials how to
manage those lands, that may he all
right But private owners should ho
able to do what they want with their
land so long as they arc not interior
ing with the rights ot others
It's obvious the l.C IX ' has out lis
i l l its usefulness and should be either
disbanded or the officials who ap
pointed them, he changed
I think its time to nuke v»mc
drastic changes
Sincerely
(si Carolyn Wortendykc
