On Friday, January 19, the Hcpp
ner Mustangs faced the slumping
Weston Me Ewen Tiger Scot» The
Mustangs took control early on, tak
ing a 10-point lead at the end of the
first quarter and extending their lead
to 24 by halftime
The Mustangs then cooled off and
were outscored 24 to 30 in the final
two periods, but it wasn't enough to
overcome the M u sta n g s 24 point
lead
The Mustangs were paced by
Russell Britt with 22 points amt six
assists and Slater Mitchell with 15
points

The Fillies got hack on the winn
ing track when they traveled to The
Dalles. January 20 Heppner pulled
out the close victory over the Eagles
36-32
Heppner held the host Eagles to
just two field goals in the first
quarter as the Fillies huilt a five point
lead after one quarter of play
Wahtonka battled hack in the second
quarter as they outscored Heppner
10-7. The Fillies had a slim two
point lead at the half
Wahtonka hurt themselves in the
second half as they connected on on
ly two of 15 free throws fhe Eagles
remained cl«*sc though and only trail
ed 24-20 at the end of the third
quarter The Eagles and Filies each
scored 12 points in the fourth quarter
hut Heppner held off Wahtonka and
went on to it’s fifth league victory

Bechdolt, Pendleton, were held Jan
23 at the Bums Mortuary Chapel at
Pendleti*n Interment was at the
Hardman Cemetery He died Jan
20. 1990 at the Amber Valley Care
Center. Pendleton
Mr Bechdolt was bom in Hard
man on July 4, 1906 to William W
and Jennie Simpson Bechdolt He at
tended elementary and high school
in Hardman and graduated from
Oregon State University with honors
in 1928 He was a high school
teacher in the commercial depart
ment at Boardman and Lexington.
On August 19. 1944, he married
VclvaG Jackson at Reno, Nevada
He was a partner with his brother in
a cattle ranch and wheat farm in
Morrow County for many years
He was a member of the First
Christian Church at Pendleton, the
Heppner lOOF Lodge, the Lex
ington Grange. Oregon Cattlemen's
Association and the Oregon Wheat
league
Survivors include his wife Velva
and a brother Archie Bechdolt both
of Pendleton

This past Tuesday, the freshmen
team hosted Umatilla's freshmen,
hoping to move their mark to 2-0
against Umatilla Heppner came out
fast and huilt an eleven point lead in
the first quarter In the second
quarter Heppner slacked off as
Umatilla picked up their game But
as the third quarter came Heppner
put the game away, with lay-in after
lay-in off Umatilla's press In the
fourth quarter Umatilla just couldn't
catch up
Tony Burt led all scorers with 16
points Heppner's next game is at
home against Condon's J V team

the last two weeks have gone 2 -1 to
move their record to 7-3 l-ast week
the freshmen heat Stanfield. 54 29.
and lost to Riverside. 41-27 This
week they heat Umatilla’s freshmen
team. 54-40
In the Stanfield game. Heppner
just rotated their players in and out.
as they easily handled the Tigers,
heating them for the second time this

Last Thursday the freshmen

Riverside's freshmen team with
hopes of revenge of an earlier loss
