employment of strike breakers ami
violation of election laws
Although the suit did mu mention
a dollar amount, it did indicate that
the group was going after hoard
members' personal assets, and not
district money
The suit asked that individual
board members be ordered to repay
to the district all money spent to
“ recruit, solicit, and advertise for
strike breakers and to pay profes
sional strike breakers for their illegal
services," during the strike The suit
id so fiskol that hotirrt members p*v

Power outage caused by
vandal shooting pole
A power outage that lasted more
than three hours and forced closure
of schools was caused by u person
shooting insulators on a power pole,
according th Fred Toombs, Colum
bia Basin Electric manager
Shots fired at seven insulators on
a string on a power pole caused a
bd thousand volt line from Board
man to Baseline Road to go out, said
Toombs Toombs said that the pole
was in the desert area about a mile
west of Hoardman Farms "It was
a very inaccessible area.” he said
Power went out at 9 a m and was
not restored until around 12:45. fhe
outage affected Heppner, lone and
larxington Schools were closed at
12 30 p.m.
"Someone is going to get killed
doing this,” said Tiximhs. explain
ing that shooting a power pole could
cause a power line to fall and
seriously endanger or kill someone.
" It’s a very dangerous practice.” he
added Toombs also said that anyone
shooting power poles could he
prosecuted
Toombs said that the outage caus
ed a "tremendous loss to ourselves
and our customers ”
Sign created for Heppner schools
of district students that the replace
ment teacher* hail been properly
recruited .md hned when in fact
they had not
Although once again the suit did
m>t name an esail amount, it did say
the board members should he made
to pay "substantial general ami
special damages." for pain, anger,
embarrassment and other emotional
distress caused by hiring the replace
ment teachers
The suit further stated thal as a
result of the failure by the hoard to
declare Stevens scat vacant, the
voters of the district w n deprived
of the right to have a timely vote on
u replacement board member ”
The seven county residents who
•filed fhe tnw snit are being
represented by a Portland attorney
Ralph Wiser, a member of the law

Smith and Wiser of Portland
Dorian Forrar. an employee for
the Morrow County School District

represents Heppner Elementary and
Middle School facilities
For the past few years Dorian has
enhanced the landscaping for schools
in Heppner He and principal Don
Cole felt a need for a sign that would
represent the educational facilities
and strengthen the landscaping
around the school grounds
Lance Marv in created the graphics
for the sign last year and Lance and
Dtrek Osmin managed to complete
the majority of the work
Lance, who was a national art
