special meals, parties, charitable
donations, decorations, greeting
cards, postage, phone calls and gifts
At you estimate the cost of gifts,
list the people for whom you usual
ly buy gifts, this year's gift ideas,
and the approximate costs
Next, estim ate the money
available for holiday spending How
much is available from November
and December incomes'How much,
if any. are you willing to withdraw

your friend’s property, and sou made sure to mention they were from the

Ah. so that was it, a conscientious hunter from western Oregon with
bent feelings After I assured her that the piece had been pointed at hunters
in general (indeed, this column has primarily an eastern Oregon audience)
to advise them of their responsibilities to prevent trespass infractions, and
ihe fact that the violators mentioned were from the westside was not a pot

As youngsters, my hesi friend and I would stand lor hours on Main Street
after school Ihe week before hunting season to watch the hunters pour into
town As we marveled at the procession of fancy new motorhomes pull
ing customized pickups and other customized pickups pulling block-long
campers, we could only wonder what their town cars al home Itxikcd like
We even devised a contest for the most likely looking "city " hunter
The reigning all lime champion is a gent we found standing at the spor
ting goods counter of our local hardware store the das before deer season

ot people who cross the Cascades each fall to partake in our wealth of
hunting opportunities, it figures that a certain portion will do things that
rile the natives Invariably, these arc the ones that get noticed

To lump these folks and others like them in with the hell raisers simply
because they all hail from the far side of the mountain is prcpostcnnis
