The Forest Service is the lead
agency for preparing management
plans on the following rivers, or
segments thereof, which were
designated under the “ Omnibus
Oregon Wild and Scenic Rivers Act
of I9KM" F-agle Creek. Imnaha
River. Joseph Creek. Uisiine Riser,
Minam River, North Fork John Day
River. North Powder River and
Wenaha River The Wallowa River
is identified for further study and
possible inclusion as a Wild and
Scenic River
Woody Fine, team leader, is com
mitted to giving the public "an op
portunity to leant ahiM Jt Ihe W ild and
Scenic Rivers Act and to^ive the
public the chance to be heard with
(heir ideas or preferences." Fine
alv) said he hopes that those cili/cns
who cannot make the public
meetings will contact the team either
by phone or in writing with any
questions or comments that they may
have
The rivers listed in the I9H8 Act,
a lotal of 40 State wide, were
designated by Congress hccause they
arc free flow ing and have at least
one outstanding characteristic The
interim boundaries tor each of the
Wild and Scenic Rivers currently ex-
lends to *4 mile on each side of the
river, public inpui will help to refine
these throughout the planning pnv
cess The planning team hopes to
complete the mangement plans for
the eight rivers by October 1992
