Letters to the Editor I They know where good cores ! , ,f * ■ i ' To the Editor At the last meeting about the ilani. on the 13th o f September, the Engineers said they didn't think jhout letting the public sec Cores lakcn from the dam vertically this summer A few minutes after pumng their heads together, they said they would he drilling a test place horizontally soon and we could watch that I'm sure they can drill hori/ontally into a good layer tor us to watch I think good cores will he taken because they know where the good layers arc from records made from vertical tests The dam seems to have been leak mg mostly in the spillway area where the construction is thinner and has a great deal o f vegetation I believe that alot of the slowdown in leakage is because o f leaves and vegetation coming in with the creek water flow plug the holes on the inside The concrete will probably receive considerable damage during freezing in the spillway area due to leakage there The chief Engineer said the water was alkali only during the summer due to the algae blooms, but I tested the water coming into the lake and the lake and creek leaving the dam during January 14X9 and I ouih I it to , *A ‘ * / he alkali or PH8 then as well Even the rocks around the lake and in the creek are coated with a while alkali coating This morning ( Sept 19) I stopped to look at the new coring work The driller said they arc going to core for about 70' He said his company hasn't worked here before They have dnlled into dam about 7' at this time They have one good core to show Since this coring company hasn't worked here before I couldn't ask about the looks o f cores from this summer A concerned resident (s) Charles W McConnell K..V 4SS Heppner Two-Trackers start Fall program The Two-Trackers 4 H horse club w ill begin their fall program this Sunday at 5 p m at the Morrow County fairgrounds arena Those planning to attend should wear tennis shoes and bring hoots, a horse and a parent The Adventures of Grazelda & Clem *;*V¿ ... > 5:00 ( A fte r H ours) a .m . - 11:00 p .m .
