A reception was held at the home of the brides parents and also in Walla Walla on March 24 The bride is a self-employed beautician The groom is an electrician and horseshoer The newlvweds wedding trip was to lehm an Hot Springs They reside in Walla Walla Bill at PMH seems excessive To the Editor I feel I must write and let the pe»>- ple of this area know what kind of rip offs they're getting from their local health care I received a bill from Pioneer Memorial Hospital for an emergen cy room visit for myself for a sim pic case of the flue The only reason I went to the hospital was for medication for the nausea It cost me over 5400 for approsimatcly three hours (most of the time was spent roaming around them not me) Not to mention I was charged for the medication on top of being charged for them to give me the medication •For the past three weeks over 134 Morrow County bth graders have enjoyed learning about the forest resources during Outdoor School Each school spent one week along with their teachers and high school counselors at Tuppcr Work Center, a forest service facility located in the Heppner district Dur ing the week (he youngsters learned about the environment including fish & wildlife, range, soils, water sheds. timber, recreation and other resources One day was spent at Hull Prairie learning aquatic life, wilderness sur vival and nature study •Sunflower Flats (Area 11) is the area now open tor wiMuJcutting It is located 37 miles south of Heppner on Road 22 Monument Signs are posted beginning at the turnoff at Anson Wright Park Trees arc in stacks of piles (with wood 4 " to 10" in diam eter) Piles consist of Ponderosa Pine, Jum per, and [Xmglas Fir Wood is available on both sides of the Road 22 This area We’re 5 Years Old This Month! •• By this time next week this family will be caught up in the excitement of T O high school graduation What with 1 _ Francie teaching at the high school, it won't he the first, she * always been excited to see her students make that important march across the stage This year will he special though One of those young pcxiplc marking that milestone will be our own son The I khisc will he full of relatives, mosi bearing potluck. intending to stay overnight All will be involved in Hs Fd Glenn tedious planning, when to dress, when to leave, who sleeps where, all that stuff that goes with a house full There will be a stack of gifts, some have already arm ed from those who cannot attend, and explanations about future plans will be repeated over and over But only two of us will feel the sense of pndc only parents feel when the kid turns out good Only two of us will be sad knowing the youngster we have nourished all these years will now lease the nest and go on his own We ll know he can but always want to be there to help It had to be only yesterday that 1 had my first glimpse of number one son. just minutes old So tiny they come I thought But I knew this was a keeper because he was all mouth, powered by a good set of lungs and by the volume of the yowl, I knew he had the determination to make a go in this world And determined that boy is He was walking at eight months talking at less than a year and his math education was well along long before he ever saw a school room Like his father (and unlike his mother) our son has never been particularly athletically talented It was determination, not athletic ability that got him through years of Little league baseball Ditto for his role as football and basketball manager all lour years at Riverside He was just as determined to pursue some of the bad habits all kids try at one time or another it took equal determination and greater ingenuity to overcome those errant pursuits Looking back over the years. I suppose I regret as many failures as other fathers do. I regret not taking him fishing more than I did. but the darned kid caught more and bigger fish than I ever time I did 1 regret I didn t take him hunting more I don't know of anything I enjoyed more than hun ting as a young man though I've nearly given that up in recent years I regret I didn't learn his sport, golf, which he pursues with that same distinctive determination But with the regrets there is some pride in the things we did do. Eight years ago. he worked side by side with the much older and bigger boys we hired to help put in the vineyard Just like his father before him. years ago on another farm, the bosses son assumed the bosses role when necessary And just a couple of years ago he became a willing and productive wood worker After school, weekends and during the summer, young son could be counted on to help out in the box company, at a wide variety ot tasks and to do them all well. Over the years he's learned to do and has done nearly every necessary job at the winery He even learned a most critical lesson sort of by accident while we were bottling one afternoon But by far the greatest pride his mother and I take is in hav ing raised an inquisitive mind Our son's curiosity is immense, sometimes without his even knowing it We feel great pride in instilling in him in the value of knowledge His tendency is toward mathematics and science but he also studies business, computers and the like Maybe it was the model rockets we made and launched years ago. maybe it was the movie Star Wars, but he wants to be an Aerospace Engineer and design space ships He has a gtxxl foundation to pursue such a career That's why high schixil graduation will be special at our house this year Our own will be there on the stage And his diploma will mean an unpor tant step toward a lifctunc of dreams I'm not so naive as to believe other fathers have not felt as I do. It's only special because it's me and mine this tunc Spec ial note to the pigeon who tried to explain a carrier from a passenger 1 can't tell a htx>t from a screech but I can tell a fowl deal AS IHana Hall.................................................................................W MHix Mark Mrulhrrs ......................................................
