Behind Randy Hanson's game

Mustangs defeated the h«>si Stanfield
Tigers for the fourth time this season
Saturday night
A funny thing happened on the
way to the game, as Hanson missed
the team bus
L u c k y for the
Mustangs, he arrived in time for the
game ami saved the Mustang's hide
Seven Mustangs scored in the first
quarter as Heppner outscorcd the
Tigers by three points leading 16-13.
Three 3-powit field goals by
Russell Britt in the second quarter
led the Mustangs as they took a slim
37-33 lead into the locker room
Heppner increased Us lead by
eight in the third quarter, led by
Hanson's nine points in the period
Alter the third quarter it Uioked as
if Heppner would blow the game
open, but it was not to be. and the
Tigers came fighting back Heppner
and Stanfield both took turns at scor­

ing spurts but in the end the
Mustangs were able to hang on even
though they were outscorrd 18-14 in
the final stan/a Bryan Padherg led
the fourth quarter with nine points
Tim Hays contributed 12 rebounds
and Britt handed out 10 assists for
the Mustangs
Nest up for the Mustangs will be
the visiting W eston-M cEwen Tiger
Scots, Friday, before making the
long trip to Maupin to play the
Wasco County Rcdsides on Satur
day. This will be a very important
weekend for the Mustangs in deter
mining play-off position

the Vikings stayed close, scoring 20

The Heppner Mustangs were
looking for a little revenge over
Riverside Friday. Feb 3 and g«k it
in a big way as »hey vtampeded over
the visiting Pirates 97-71.
Riverside beat the Mustangs
earlier this season. 81 52 but Hepp­
ner, behind Bryan Padherg s 38
jxiints, was determined not to let that
happen again
The Mustang defense shut down
the Pirates in the first quarter as
Riverside only scored 10 points
Meanwhile Hcppncr’s offense was
in high gear and they scored 23
Heppner continued its dominance
in the second quarter scoring 27
fkunts of which 14 came from
Padherg Once again the Pirates
couldn't generate much offense and
found themselves trailing 50-25 at
the half
Riverside rallied in the third
quarter and cut the Mustang lead to
16 points but came no closer at
Heppner started to pull away again
