Partners ami ranchers must report’ payments o f S600 or more to in d ivid u a ls or unincorporated businesses by filing Form 1099 Copies o f the completed Form 1099 must be sent to both the payee (per son to whom the payment is nude) and the IRS T o complete Form 1099, you need the social security number or tax payer identification number o f the payee If you do mx have this infor mation. you may be liable for in come tax withholding It is a good idea to get the contractor’ s social security number or taxpayer iden tificalion number before actually paying for the services performed Here arc some examples o l payments that must be reported on Form 1099 if the total amount is $600 or more --Cash rent paid directly to an in dividual If the rent .'s paid to an agent or farm manager it does not have to he reported Custom hire payments tor custom services such as field work Payments for work done under contract -Interest paid to an individual You don't have to file an informa tion return In other w ords, payments to a feed company, farm supply cooperative, or other incur poralcd business don't have to he reported For example, if your veterinarian has an incorporated business, you don't need to report amounts paid lor those services But you should file a Form 1099 if the veterinarian is self employed and your payments total $600 or more Wages paid to employees are reported on Form W 2 rather than on Form 1099 Before the end o f January 19X9. you must complete and send a copy o f Form 1099 to each individual or business to which you made payments You will need the in dividual's names, addresses and lax payer's identification number or sccial security numbers Armxhcr copy o f each o f thes.
