Ray and Mary Michael. Boardman were honored recently
by Riverside high School
He also has worked with the kids
during the spring and summer as
coach on the Babe Ruth programs
As a member of the Lions Club,
he acts as a liaison, administering
funds to the program for equipment
and supplies
The Michaels liaised to Boardnun
ten years ago Within a few months
they had opened the Boardman Phar
macy A year later ihoy bought the
adjoining hardware store
Previously Michael worked tor

Academy above the others because
of the challenge, she feels that the
Air Force Academy is more than just
a college, there she will be able to
fly jets, play volleyball and continue
to he challenged academically

Cuddly teddy hears are being col
Icctcd as a pilot project to aid in the
foster care program in Morrow
County.
Hoping to bridge the emotional
gap when a child is placed into foster
care. Sue Warren of the Morrow
County Childrens Services division
(CSD) has staned an experimental
program called Officer Bear Care
Donated teddy bears will be plat,
cd into the antes of a child to hug and
hold as the child is placed into a
foster home "W e will tell the child
he will be the foster mommy or dad
dy for that bear," said Warren, also
foster home certifier for Wheeler
and Gilliam Counties
"It is such an intense time for a
child, wc are hoping these teddy
bears will make the situation more
tolerable," she said
The program will spread to
Gilliam and Wheeler counties if the
program does well, according to
Warren
"If we get a hunch.” said War
ren. "w e would even share with
mental health and the different law
enforcement agencies."
The bears should be huggable

new or in new condition "Wc can't
take money or checks, we can just
take bears," she said

selected two Riverside juniors to
represent them in Nevada this com
ing June
Vince Daltoso and Cindy Ballard
were chosen as a result of a contest
including a 500 word essay on elec
tric co-ops. and a personal interview
The contestants were asked ques
lions about themselves, their per
sonal ambitions, and how the trip
would be beneficial to them, if
chosen
Eight students competed for a
chance at one of four trips, three to
Nevada and one to Washington D C
Two students from Hcmuston, two
from Weston McEwen and four

Drug bust in Irrigon

A response to a V11 ambulance
call May 12. at 3:31 p m at an
apartment at 440 W Highway 730
in Imgon resulted in a drug bust and
two small children being placed in
the care of Children Services Divi
sion (CSD).
According to the office of the Ir
ngon Police Department, Kathy Jean
