Volunteers from the unit will once again lake pari in this nationwide program in memory o f servicemen and women who gave their lives in the cause lor freedom Think o f this, as you give, they gave their lives what can you fiv e ? Phesc memorial poppies are made completely hy hand hy disabled and hospitalized veterans in "P op p y Shops" run hy Legion Auxiliary volunteers It is part o f die rchabilita tion program All materials in the poppies arc furnished free and the veterans receive pay for each poppy made Contributions made locally are us ed by the local unit to aid Inispitals throughout the state A ll proceeds arc channeled directly to réhabilita tion and furtherance o f programs to aid veterans. Auxiliary members all over the nation will ask the public to pause for a moment, pin on a poppy and wear it with pride. Thank you for listenmg- for remembering the sacrifices made by the veteran, and for giving with a smile it w ill brighten the day for the auxiliary volunteer. W e have been operating at a loss for quite a while, but now the crisis is imminent Revenue sharing funds received over a year ago have been exhausted; United Way monies for program materials are rapidly being eaten away, the U SD A Food pro gram provides $138 a month is assirtancc. which doesn't go very far when our food bill averages $700-800 a month W e are raising our rates at the end o f the month, but even two-income families have a tough time making ends meet (child care for a family with one child will he around $ 2 2 0 a month, for a fami ly with 2 children-$320. and for a family with 3 $440 1 But. with grant monies gone, we cannot balance our budget W e are required by Children's Services D ivisrhi and the Depart ment o f Health and Education to maintain standards that do not app ly to private home caregivers For the benefit o f the kids, we have to serve certain types and amounts o f food; we are required to maintain strict adull child ratios (one adult to 4 children ages 1 to 2 -V*. one to 10 children 2-V* to 4, and one to 15 over age 4); we are required to have triple sinks for sanitatKMis and con duit wiring for safety. so not just any bu ildin g w ould be allow a b le.
