"voting for the n u n " is simply a stab in the dark Besides, "the n u n " always lines up on the side of the party when the chips arc down It's the party lhal names ihc leadership, ihc committee chairman and most of the members It’s the party "W hip” that lines the man up on the side of the party no matter what the tiu n believes The one reliable thing wc can learn about the nun is his party An d a* I sec it. that’s really the only thing wc need to know Because ihai's the only really important thing W e’ll have to learn a little bit about the party now. but maybe I can help in the weeks to come. • • • • To the Editor In response to the recent letter from Mr Klinger I was approached last September by Mr Klinger and asked to file crim inal charges against the operators of so-called "Key l>ock" gas pumps in Morrow County I declined, tcclmg that it was m* a criminal matter In December, I way approached by the Oregon Gasoline Dealers Association and asked to seek an injunction restricting the operation of these kcy-ltx'k pumps Because of a possible confiicl-of- interest involv ing a member of this office, I referred (he matter to the l manila County District Attorney, to indopcntkntly review, and take whatever action he felt appropriate Relying on a 1900 Oregon Attorney General's opinion, (he I numila County District Attorney determin ed that tl was unclear whether these key-lock gas pumps violate the Statue prohibiting self service al retail gas staiHms He agreed with my decision not to prosecute This is a nutter which needs to he resolv ed by the legislature or the Attorney i -• • * .‘«I.
