Morrow County dispatched the Boardman Fire department to Desert Springs hstalc 495 to a fire at a trailer. Fire was out before they arrived. District Sis chairman After President’s Day Paint SALE Obituaries John Dee Watkins John Dee Watkins was bom July 5. 1918 at the family home on up per Willow Creek He passed away Feb 2 at John Day Hospital. He was the son of Flisha and Amy (Cox) Watkins His maternal grand lather F Dee Cox was an early set tler in this area His grandfather John Watkins died in Heppner in I9(M He was named for both of these men John Dee attended sctaxil in Hepp ner and for many years worked on ranches in the area as did hi» father In hi» earlier year» he tended and rode race hor»c» for Gerald Swaggart. On October 23. 1956. he married HJma Hood Yoder and worked for the Cunningham Sheep Company in Pendleton In 1978 they moved to Seneca where he resided until his death He was prccceded in death by hi» parents and two sitter». Leora Frances W atkins, 1927, and Charlotte Mathews. 1985 He is survived by his wife Fima, one stepdaughter. Darlene Moms and one granddaughter Lori Jo. two sisters Elsie Stephens and Ada Ham mons of Stanfield Graveside servicas were held at the Canyon City cemetery in Canyon City. Ethel F.E. Wilcox Ethel Fay Eskclson Wilcox, the daughter of Morrow County pioneers, died Sunday. Feb. 7, 1988. in Gresham at the age of 100 The funeral was last Friday at 1 oncoln W illamette Funeral Home at Portland, with private burial at Willamette National Cemetery Mrs. Wilcox was bom Aug 19. 1887. near Ixxington Her mother and father were ciwnty pioneers who homesteaded in the Lexington area She grew up on a wheat ranch and married her high school teacher. Robert B Wilcox, on Aug 17. I9(M They were married 72 years until Robert's death in 1976 She was active many years in 4-H and H ook Extension, and in World War II served as a Red cross volunteer in the Hcmuslon hospital After retirement, they moved to Ashland, where she was a licensed practic al nurse and worked at the Ashland hospital. They moved to Portland in 1956 and she worked as a Gray lady at the Veterans Hospital in Portland Her children include Eva Brostcn of Pol latch. Idaho. Charles Wilcox of Hermiston. Dorris Graves of Heppner, Claude Wilcox of Deer Harbor, Wash.; Ixster Wilcox of Umatilla and Glen Wilcox of Portland Mrs Wilcox had 20 grandchilden. 43 g rea t grandchildren and 22 great great grandchildren Memorials may be nude to the Dougy Center for Children, 6941 S.E. Stinglc worked for the railroad, retiring in 1959 That year they returned to Heppner Stingle died in 1969 Survivors include daughters. Beth Bryant. Lot» Johnston, both of Heppner. and Btrdinc Tulltsof lone, sisters. Mrs Guv F Noe and Arda Wilkcrson and brother, Fuller Wilkcrson. all in Tennessee; »ix grandchildren.
