A modern das miracle is taking
form in Boardman through four peo
pie, who had a vision for a com
mumty Christian center which would
bring together kids and adults alike
for recreation, worship or shelter
A skating rink, nicknamed the Ho
ly Roller Skating Kink, complete
with brand new skates and a snack
bar; and a recreation nx>m providing
video games. pix>l tatiles. ping pong,
and foosball. "to give the kids
something to do." recently opened
up to the public in a 20.0(X) square
foot building because of a need in the
Boardman community seen by
Eileen and Howard Wheeler and
their friends, Sam and Ethel White
A group of adults and children
banded together in faith, with the
Wheelers and the White s to host an
auction and go door to door selling
candy bars; Tithes were received.

The congregation started out as a
small group meeting in the Riverside
High School Auditorium sixteen
months ago and has now grown to
a hundred members "W e want to
reach the unchurched poople," he
said

on the second floor "W e arc
already renting out six rooms at SI5
a night,” said Howard
A full-fledged family restaurant

the public soon “ We need to do a
little more repairs on the existing kit
chen equipment," Wheeler said

to 12 p m and 6 to 7 p m Sunday.
The skating rink hours are Tues
day, Thursday, Friday and Saturday
from 7 - 9 p m and Monday and
Saturday afternoons from 2 - 5 p m
The charge for skating is SI 50 per
person plus a fifty cent rental fee for
skates.

Retirement for Don Adams as
head custodian and maintenance man
at A.C Houghton Elementary in Ir
rigon. after twenty four years, does
not mean leisure or traveling, as his
former eo-workers would hope for
him Instead. Adams is happily look
ing forward to putting finishing
touches on the Imgon Fire Station
and catching up' on projects around
the house.
" I like to work." said Adams
Having retired only a short time
ago, he has already been pumng up
moldings around windows, staining
facing's, and painting door frames
of the nearly completed addition to
the fire station and has put a 318
Dodge motor in his old pick-up
Being fire chief for about 30 years
is more to Adams than just ex
tinguishing fires. " I'm not retiring
from that.” he said
His future plans sound like more
work, painting the bottom of the Ir
rigon Police Department's rescue
boat, remodeling his garage, and re
doing his yard
He and his wife Ruth, are looking
forward to a week end at Haystack
Resort at Cannon Beach The trip
was a gift along with $180 pocket
money, from his co-workers and
friends
The gift was presented to him at
a retirement dinner at Nendels
recently, where ninety two well-
wishers gathered to show their love
and affection for him "It was a
super party," said Adams "I was
roasted, toasted, and barbequed "
Discovering how talented his co-
workers arc. Adams was presented
with a scraptxxik of a collection of
poems, stones, and momentos about
his years spent at A.C. Houghton
Elementary.
"A lot of time, effon and love
went into it," said Ruth
In c evening was mixed with a bit
of wistful sadness " I'll miss the
people," he said Adams had work
cd w ith some of the A.C employees
fot the full twenty-four years "It is
a close knit group," he said
Adams had good reason to stick

the Boardman City Council last

was elected Mayor last month The
