By Sean Warren The tone I ady Cardinals took on the Arlington Honkers in a strong league rivalry for the second time this season The I ady Cardinals who lost their first meeting in the Condon Christmas Tournament, was out for revenge in the contest. Arlington won 64 29 lone was outscorcd in the first quarter 14 7 lone played tough in the game hut couldn't seem to come back after the shakey first quarter The Cardinals had a tough time on- the defensive end as tfie Honkers got nearly all the offensive rebounds they wanted Arlington got sevral third and fourth attempts which allowed them to score nearly at w ill lone was outscorrd in the second quarter 17-6 They played decently on the defensive end but couldn't seem to get anything to drop The third quarter was worse for lone who got outscored 18-2. The Cardinals who had only scored 15 points in the third quarter mounted a furious charge in the fourth quarter Finally things started to go lone's way as shots started to tall lone got their break going in the fourth quarter and showed Arlington they could play on the same level with the Honkers Sophomore Linda M ortcr led the way for the Cards scoring 12 points. P , 4 r « f * M 14 lone boys take on Echo I V I 4 P j The lone hoys team travelled to Arlington to square off against the league leading Honkers lone who had won only one league game this year was determined to play well and try to come away with a win The score was Arlington 55. lone 44 lone came out playing an ag gressive defense that allowed them to out score Arlington 11-10 lone was executing well and they were hitting all of the shtKs that would be essential if they were going to win the game The defense proved to be the ntaior factor in the game as b*nh teams worked extremely hard on the defensive end o f the court Arlington edged the Cardinals by one point inthc second quarter to make the score 19-19 at the break Height was another factor in the game as Arlington had (wo players over 6 '4 " while lone has a smaller lineup w ith only i>ne player over 6 ’ I” lone started slow in the third quarter allowing Arlington to score 16 points in the third as opposed to only 10 points by lone The fourth quarier proved to be a close one as lone caught up to within three points on a three point bomb by both senior Kevin Ball and Ken Snider Snider who hit three, three point goals in the *xx>nd halt led the Cardinals with 13 points Junior Dustin Padherg also had a good game scoring 12 points Arlington scored the last six points of the game to win (he quarter 2 0 15 and the game by a score o f 55 44 leading scorers for Arlington were seniors John Galvin with 19 points and Jeff Dc Bolt who chipped in 12 points o f his own NaMMt« s-sdrt 3 M I U W l » 4 « 4 Pfedfc»*« « 2 4 12 ■#. Jan .30 The Fillies were led the whole way by the Tigers In the second quarter it seemed that the Fillies were going to take control o f the game as they fought their way hack to within 2 points before the half. Jennifer Currin is ranked fourth in league points averaging 12 0 points per game Sandi Turner and Tami Lindsay rank second and third con secutively in league rebounding Turner averages 11 2 rebounds and Lindsay averages 9 4 rebounds per game Turner also ranks fourth in league assists The top tow teams in the Fast CBC division are the Weston McF.wen Tiger Scotts and the Hcpp ncr Fillies The top two teams in the West CBC Division are the Wasco County Rcdsules and the Riversale Pirates After four weeks of league play.
