" It was a dark and stormy
night "in Morrow County when a hit
and run suspect made the wrong
decu.on, December 2, in choosing
to park his 1965 Chevrolet pickup in
the middle of the east bound lane of
Highway 730 at 8 .30 p m just out
side the city limits of Irrigon, after
allegedly colliding with the bac k of
a potato truck on I 84 near mile post
177 at 8p.m then leaving the scene
Jonathan Harey Evans, 26. Route
2 Bos 3-B, Echo, was found passed
out in the front seat of his truck,
lights out and motor shut off, by Ir
rigon Police Officer Rob Elkins and
Chief Steve Mackey upon in
vestigating the vehicle
After arousing the suspect, he
became abusive and was cited for
disorderly conduct, driving while
suspended, and resisting arrest, ac
cording to Chief Mackey
Before being transfered to Dcpu
ty Sheriff Gary Warren's Patrol car
for the trip to the Umatilla police
department for an minxilizcr lest.
Evans proceeded to kick out the rear
window on the drivers side of officer
Elkins' patrol car He was then cited
for criminal mischief.
After being offered the intnxilizer
test five times at (lie Umatilla Police
Department and refusing, he was
cited for driving under (he influence
of alcohol, then tranpsorlrd to the
Benton County jail by deputy sheriff

was lodged, according to Elkins

citation for failing to perform the
duties of a driver in a motor vehicle
accident involving the December 2

Jam session held in Irrigon for
Cystic Fibrosis victim

A nine hour country western jam
session was held Sunday for three
month old Corrin Warr, a cystic
fibrosis (C.F.) victim
She won the hearts of the manager
and employees at Paul's Inn of the
Road,in Irrigon Her plight stirred
them to give an open invitation to
bands and musicians to help put on
a benefit to raise funds for her
family.
Nineteen groups such as Mike
Timpy and Company, from The
Dalles and Pendleton, with Harlcne
Patterson doing a tunc periodically;
and Lita Hildman and her four
teenage daughters, the Family Tradi
tion from Trt-Citics. all country
western groups, donated their talent
for the sevston Groups came from
Vancouver, Pendleton, and Walla

of groceries, and hamburgers, even

because of an intestinal blockage the
day after she was bom She was later
diagnosed as having C F
The expense of therapy , medica
tion. periodic hospitalization, anti
other medical expenses will coat the
family $10.000 a year
C.F. is a hereditary disease tn
which the body produces abnormal
ly thic k mucus The mucus becomes
so thick that it forms plugs in many
body organs, reducing their ability
to work properly
"It is easy for them to get lung
disease," said her father, "that is
why many C F patients don't make
it to adulthood."
"I closed the doors of my business
while she was in the hospital, so wc
could stay with her there in Portland,
not knowing how long we would
have her." said Ware, who runs his
upholstery business in Hcrmiston
" It really hurt."
Cans have also been placed in
several businesses in Irrigon for
those who would like to help
