Riverside, lone and C atlin (table On the first night o f the tourna ment. the Cardinal hoys team drew C atlin (table The game proved to be a very good one and one o f the closest o f the entire tournament The scoring leader for lone was senior guard Kenny Snider who poured in Id points, senior guard Kevin Ball was second w ith 15. w hile jun ior forward Dustin Padberg also chip ped in w ith 13 points The Cardinals d id n't play very well in the first half getting outscorrd 4 1 to 2d Fortunately, lor the Cards, the C atlin Gable Lagles played a h orrible game from free throw line shooting only 4 out o f 25 The Cardinals fired up a fierce ral ly in the fourth quarter outsconng the Fagles by 7 points, but time was the major factor in the game lo r lone who fell short 69-65 The la g le s were led by Roger G ant/ who scored 21 points, and Phil Buchanan who scored 20 points in their tournament win that advanc cd them to the final game with Hcpp- ner who had beaten Riverside earlier that day. I he la d y Cardinals also drew the Fagles from C atlin Gable fo r their first round game o f the tournament The game proved to be a very low scoring contest fo r both teams Sophomore forw ard Jo Cupps led the la d y Cards w ith 10 points Both teams fought hard but the C atlin (iable Fagles seemed better prepared and better conditioned C atlin Gable was led by Weinstein who scored 10 points in their win against the Cardinals lone made their best c llo rt in the game late in the fourth quarter only getting outscorcd 14-10 Since lone had lost their opening day game for both their teams they went on to play in the consolation round on Saturday The lone boys team went on to play Riverside while the lone g irls team went on to lace Heppner g irls to decide th ird and fourth place The R iv e rs id e b oys team dominated (he lone Cardinals with their tremendous si/e, namely h ' 8 " center Robb Rea who scored 21 points (10 in the first quarter) The Cardinals led by jun ior Dustin Padberg who scored Id points and snagged 4 rebounds The Pirates ran away w ith the consolation match outscoring the Cards 74 48 The g irls team proved to have a closer game w ith the Heppner girls The Cards were led w ith strong play by sophomore s Jo Cupps who scored 9 points.
