• ' . . • ■ • • • • i > >\ « ry / f • SIX - Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, September 9,19(17 The Pendleton Round-Up and Happy Cany on Pageant will lock off the world famous shows September 16-19 with some warm up activities including a dress up parade and dance Four performances of the PRCA Rodeo will be held each day at 1:15 featuring 500 cowboys com peting for $53.700 in prize money Also, four performances of the Happy Canyon Pageant and Dance will take place each evening at 7 45 Rodeo competition will include seven professional events; saddle bronc. bull nding. calf roping, steer wrestling, bareback, steer wrestling and team roping There will also be competition in a Wild Horse Race, wild Cow Milking and Baton and Pony Express Racing Others events dunng the four days will feature Indian Tnhal Dancing. Indian Beauty Contests and Stage Coach Races The Happy Canyon Pageant is a colorful presentation of early Indian culture and the changes that came with emigrants and frontier town living Some special events include the Round-Up Week Kick-OfT on Sept 12 Townspeople put on a parade beginning at 7 p m. followed by a dance with music by the Charlie Daniels Band Music for the Happy Canyon dances will be supplied by the McKenzie River Band During the Round-Up, there are daily events including barbecues, cowboy breakfasts. Indian tribal dancing, family days, senior citizens days and cowboy shows on the main street of town Over 500 volunteers from the Pendleton area help put on the show which was started by a group of ran chers and farmers in 1910 Tickets for performances can be obtained by calling I -800 824 1603 Round-Up events start Sept. 16.
