/ ■ -~~r * «• .- • " ^ ' * L -i : • ' ^ • *T » • t ••: r v ; * v • , * • #• à! *+ • • , - - — Princess Judy enjoys limelight Prmcevs Judy Jepsen vwill greet M orn)» County Fair and Rodeo parade goers from her parade horse " S lic k ,” a quarterhorve thoroughbred The 16-year old sophomore at lone High School has lived tust out vide lone all of her life An honor student, she is a member o f the volleyball and the dance and d rill teams and sings in the school chorus She is a member o f the lone United Church of Christ »here she is a Sun day School teacher and helper and member o f the youth group When that 's not enough to keep the likeable princess busy, she babysits and works at Beecher's She is active in 4 H horse, cook ing. canning, and sewing clubs, and has earned several championships for her efforts She has also been a 4 H camp counselor and a teen leader In addition to her parade horse, the winning princess is training a two- year old thoroughbred named Tiny as part o f a 4 H project She has placed at the state 4 H horse show for two years in a row and also has many open class horse trophies She still has her first horse " S o x " »ho was raised by lad M iller and given to her as a Christmas present by her parents Princess Judy has been active in Wranglers for four years competing in barrel racing She has served as a pennant bearer to the fair and rodeo court lor two years " I didn't think being a member o f the court would be that much different from being a pennant bearer," the good humored princess said, "hut it is You get to meet so many more pet) pie I love the parades and grand en tries To ride by and know we re representing Morrow County with everyone clapping nukes you feel so special, like a Queen Afterwards when people come up and say we look so pretty in our outfits, it feels good," she continued "Then when somebody like last year's court chaperone ( tail Papincau tells us we look good, it's really nice." Former fair and rodeo court queens Donna and IX’bra Palmer really strated her on horses when they were her babysitters, the ap pealing princess said She and a friend used to ride in the pasture pretending to be princesses or queens waving to admirers along the parade route There just is no bad part about be ing a member o f the court, the agreeable princess reiterates, "y o u get to meet so many new and d if / Princess Judy Jepsen ferent people and learn new things like when we got to go behind the scenes at Portland Meadows and find out about the cost and effort involv cd in raising race horses " Parents become involved with the court, too. she said After we gel in to our parade outfits and go to v isit other courts inviting them to our parade and lair, our parents are sad dlmg the horses, taking care of flowers, polishing hooves, and put ting tnl on the horses so they shine After the parade, while the court at tends a luncheon with the other courts, again the parents (who have brought along a picnic lunch) get the horse ready for the grand entry And if somebody's down and things aren't going P h i well. Judy Davis (Queen Cindy's mother) cheers everybody up she's always along (he parade route laughing, and mak ing a bad day into a good one. she said, the attention is great most of the time Ä B ^ Her mom and dad Jean and John Jepsen in addition to helping with (he ■ ourt have long been active in the Morrow County lair Jean has work cd in the 4 H Snack Shack for several years and this year is busy helping Fair Sec retary Marlene Cur nn with theme signs for the pavilion John has helped w ith the rodeo beer stand for several years Her older brother Jim also was active with the fair and 4 H for several years Friends and her boyfriend.
