I « *7 Mustangs split with TigerScots ters to earn the loss Todd Hanson went the distance in the first game for the TigerScots tossing a 10-hitter and helping himself at the plate with a home run Hcppner trailed only 4 - 1 after 2 W innings of the first game but Weston McEwcn scored five runs in the hot tom of the fourth to put the game out of reach The TigerScots built a 2-0 lead after (he first inning in the nightcap but the Mustangs came alive with three runs in the fourth inning Kenny reached on an error and Pedro walked Britt then singled and Mark fishbum sacrificed Scott Davis then singled and Hcppner had a 3-2 H> Ashley Conklin ; & Hcppner's baseball (cam spill a ivsmbill against the Weston McEwcn TigerScots on Saturday. April 18. dropping the first game 14-7 before coming back to lake the mghlcap 6-4. In ihc first game Heppncr's David Pedro went 2-3 with two doubles but it wasn't enough to overcome the TigerScots. In the second game, doubles by Craig Angell. John Kenny and Bob Kichl and last minute relief help from I roy Hyatt gave the Mustangs the win. Heppncr's Russell Britt issued 10 free passes to Weston Me Ewen bat advantage Weston McF.wen added a run in its half of the founh to tie the game at 3 3 Kenny then starlcd things off for the Mustangs in the fifth with a dou ble and Pedro followed with run scoring single Riehl then folkiwed w ith a double and Britt sacrificed to score both Pedro and Riehl and give Hcppner a 6-3 cushion The TigerScots scored in the sixth to pull within 6-4 before the dramatic seventh John Shanks and Whip Hagen walked to pul runners on first and se cond with two outs before Hyatt came on in relief of Angell Hanson greeted Hyatt with a single to load the bases before Hyatt struck out Shane Mallory to end the game and cam the save. Angell earned the victory with four strikeouts and allowed five hits Angell and Kenny both went 2-4 for Hcppner while Dick Devin was 2-3. April 14 in a game limited to sis innings because of the 10-run rule The Mustangs won 13-1. Hcppner. for the first time this season, committed no errors in the w in and also stole a season high 16 bases Umatilla pitchers helped the Mustangs by issuing 13 walks. Pilot Rock'* baseball team swept a dtniblcheadcr from the Heppner Mustangs last Tuesday by »core* of 9-6 and 11 - 1 With the two losses Heppner fell to 5-4 in CBC play but still remains in the hunt for number two playoff spot in the CBC"s Eastern Division David Pedro went 4 4 at the plate in the opener of the twinbill for the Mustangs and Scott Davis pounded a home run but it wasn't enough to heal the Rockets In game two, Pilot Rock freshman sensation Tucker Hodgcn struck out eight Hcppner tuners and allowed on ly four hits to win 11-1 In the opener, the Rockets gt* two runs in the first inning on u home run by Hodgen and a double by Scott Miller Hcppner pulled within 2-1 on Davis' home run before Pilot Rock added two runs in the second inning to lead 4-1. The Mustangs came within 4-3 utter three innings Dick Devin singled in the second and scored after three straight walks In the third. Pedro smgled and scored on a double by Bob Riehl.
