Volunteers arc like Frosted F la k o they're great, said Hirdinc Tullis of the Morrow County Extcn sK*n Service April 20-27. volunteers are being celebrated nationwide for the contributions that they nuke in their communities Did you know that the dollar value o f volunteer contributed lime is con servativcly estimated at 565 billion That's nght. and there's no belter exam ple of success than the Cooperative Extension System, commonly known as the Extension Service A recent study shows 2 9 million people (or one »nit of every HO people in the l S I volunteer to assist the Extension Service each year The dollar value of these volunteers time is 4 5 billion dollars or more than five times the total budget of the cooperative Extension System Who are these people ’ In Morrow County they arc 4 H leaders, home economics study group members, fam ily community leadership members and many other local resource people They are often in solved in other community orgam/a turns and events as well Extension Service volunteers come in all shapes and si/cs, arc all ages, some live in town, others live in the suburbs or on farms Hut always, they are friendly folks who smile a No 85 C V 96 lot because they en)oy what thcv're doing Why do these people volunteer their time and energy to the Extcn sion Service’ There arc lots of reasons, but one o f the primary ones centers around the tael that the E x tension S e rv ice trains their volunteers Each volunteer has the oppportunity to learn what it is they aic going to do and how they'll do it before getting started Volunteer 4 H leaders will tell you that they leach more than sewing, cooking, or horsemanship They teac h young people life skills skills they 'll use as adults and (hey help young people learn responsibility, self confidence and a sense ot pride about protect work As a result 4 H members become productive, in volved citizens and tomorrow’« leaders If you want to find out how you can help how you can become in volvcd with 4 H. contact the Coun ty Extension O ffice, at Hcppncr. 676 9642 or Annex Office.
