needs to be defeated
A m easure to legalize the cultivation o f m ariju ana in O regon
w ill be on the ballot in N o v e m b e r, and it should be soundly
defeated
People can argue back and b irth fo rev e r o v er the relative e f ­
fects and harm o f m ariju ana. They can, and have, said it is
less h a rm fu l than eith er alcohol, tobacco or prescription tra n ­
q u ilize rs (w h ich are also drugs) They can say what people do
in the p riv ac y o f th eir hom es is no one c ls e ’s business
But what the w ho le ballot m easure addresses is do we w ant
to introduce yet another drug into w ide spread and legalized
use in our society. I say not
W e are already contending with the effects of alcohol, tobacco
and prescription drugs abuse in o ur society D o we wish to add
another to the list?
T ru e , many people already sm oke m ariju ana (just look at the
num ber w ho signed the petition fo r its le g a liza tio n ), but it the
m ariju ana in itiative passes in N o ve m b er, the availability o l the
drug w ill skyrocket, and becom e even m ore widespread
