IW W i D«ar1lMilh>a David and Apri! Sykes, Publishers Guest Editorial Pledge of Allegiance By Lee Pins, reprinted from Livestock Market Digest Stand up, America Raise your right hand and repeat after me I , ____ ____ . do solemnly svsear that I will shove my Mercedes Hen/, BMW, Toyota or Nissan off a cliff full of OPEC oil. If Japan won’t buy our beef I promise to park their 23 percent of our car market. While still of sound mind and body. I hereby promise to turn off the billion worth of Japanese televisions and radios they sold us last year. I promise not to buy a pair of shties made by someone whose name I can’t pronounce. I believe that America has sold her sole along with 54 percent of her shoe market. This holiday season, I am not going to give any kid a doll that was made in a country where they don’t know the mean ing of Christmas. If Mattel wants to sell it here, then let them make it here. I am not going to pay a dollar for a bottle of Perrier from France Let them try selling their fancy bottled water and French champagne to (Juadaffi If we can’t borrow their blue sky. I don’t want to wallow in their green water On this point I’m sure wc arc united, one nation indivisible If New Zealand doesn’t want our nuclear subs to dock at their harbors that is fine with me. Wc don’t want their ships bearing mutinous mutton to dock at our harbor cither. Russia can keep its caviar, and Colombia can keep its civ caine If South Africa won’t free their slaves, then I won’t adorn my body with their diamonds and their Krugcrands With Lib- berty and Justice for All I won’t erect barriers to trade or charge high tariffs if Brazil, India and Pakistan would do the same I say bye bye to the dum ping of subsidized foreign foivds ..buy American. Put the SI50 billion trade deficit back into the empty pickets of Americans I swear by my life and my love of it that 1 will not drink vodka from any country that wants to blow ys up If I travel to Moscow for a vacation, it will be to Idaho. I will not have a foreign counterfeit watch tell what time it is or have a defec tive Taiwanese microwave radiate my foreign fish even if it was caught in American waters The Great Danes can keep their hams and their dogs. I want my mutts “ Made in America " The nest cat that purrs in the middle of the night I am per sonally going to send back to Persia in the same cage with a German Shepherd If I buy a suit, I won’t need an interpreter to read the label The only lawn I will mow with a foreign mower will be in a foreign country. I declare my independence from British punk rock. I will boycott any restaurant that sells a “ good old American burger” between two buns made with wheat from Argentina or garnished with tomatoes from Mexico and kangaroo meat from Australia I demand that labels of origin be placed on all food products. I will not vote for a politician who is in the tailored pocket of the textile importing multinationals. I do all these things realizing it could do more for the stixkman and the poor working stiff in American than paying off a congressman. I pledge my allegiance to the Am erican worker and to the republic for which he stands. July 22. Bishop Dcs mond Tutu responded to President Reagan’s speech on South Africa hy saying "the West, as represented hy president Reagan, can go to Hell as far as I am concerned ’’ Bishop Tutu should return his Nobel Peace Prize and apologize to President Reagan and every member of the Western World for consign ing them to Hell It is hard to believe a nun of God, whose primary ministry should be to present peo pie from going to Hell, could wish hundreds of millions of people to go there It was enough for Bishop Tutu to declare himself a socialist at the 1983 meeting of the World Council of Churches in Vancouver It is sad that he has suggested on several occa sions that violence may be a necessary option lor the non whites of South Africa Bui it is tragic when this nun ot God and Nobel Peace Prize winner would wish people to suffer in Hell forever The Bishop surely knows thai the first principle of Christianity is love and forgiveness If Jerry Falwell had publicly vug Health Dept.
