INatribadlua David and April Sykes, Publishers Editorial Haylift aids farmers —or politicians While they are still debating in Washington whether those are Rephulican cows starving to death in the Southeast, or whether they arc Democrat, one thing is for certain, they arc certainly making donkeys (and I don't mean the political kind) out of themselves in the hallowed halls of our nation's capitol 1 .cave it to the politicians to take a completely humanitarian and unselfish goodwill gesture such as the emergency hay lift to the drought stricken Southeast, and attempt to turn it into political gain In order to explain the bizarre antics of both the Democrats and Republicans jockeying to gam political mileage out of the hay lift, consider that they did so while in a complete state of shock and mental confusion None of us wants to admit that our leaders are so blatantly crass and opportunistic, that they would rush to this show of neighborly good will between farmers, and attempt to gain some sort of credit for it in the eyes of the country Rather. I would like to believe that prolonged breathing of the cynical air of the Potomac, has so hardened our leaders to a truly humanitarian and grass roots show ing of national good will, that it was too much for their collective brains to comprehend So often we hear the term "grass roots", and so often we hear it used hy politicians themselves, it seems odd that they still do not truly understand what it means Birth l.ukr Roderick Murray -a son, l.ukc Roderick, was born July 22 to John and Ann Murray al Si Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla.
