Mrs Adcllr I J I ran- ,iml Mrs Hot ly Tanner, local President, attended the District Convention at Baker for the Degree of Honor A delicious buffet dinner «as served at noon, followed by the meeting Entertain men! was furnished by the various lodges Refreshments were served in the late afternoon for those return ing home that evening Mr Lincoln Nash accompanied the ladies as far as 1-af irande. where he spent the day visiting his son and daughter in-law, Lyle and Pat Jensen Mr and Mrs le e Palmer of lone. Mr and Mrs Dean Connor. Eric and Penny, of Heppner. Mr and Mrs Steve Hickey of Pendleton. Mr and Mrs Lyle Jensen of Lafirande. and Mr and Mrs Lin coin Nash met for dinner at Walla Walla Sunday in honor of Mother's Day Mary Ann Palmer. Shirley Connor and Lyle Jensen are children of the Nash's One daughter. Rose Marie, was unable to attend Mr and Mrs F.vcrett Harshman and Mrs Alice McCabe were din ner guests of Mr and Mrs (iay Har shman at their home in Islington on Sunday Another guest was Linda Rubunks of Portland. who was home for the weekend Mr and Mrs Crocket Sprouts from Condon, Mrs IXill Campbell. Mrs Harriet Fvans, and Dennis Campbell, all of Heppner. enjoyed Mother's day dinner in Pendleton The lailies arc sisters and Mr Camp Historical tour bell is the son of Mrs Campbell Before returning home, they visited Marsha Green, granddaughter of Mrs Evans, at her home in Pendleton Mrs F.va Griffith drove to Spray Sunday to attend the annual dinner the mother of the Oucen elect of ttte Spray Rodeo sponuirs each year Mrs Martha King. Mrs Mary Gohecn. Mrs Ida Farra. and Mrs Justine W eatherford observed Mother's Day with dinner out The ladies are friends of long standing Mrs Ha/el Mahoney has recent ly returned from a week's visit with her daughter and son-in-law. Mr and Mrs Harlan Smith, at their Seat tie home Mrs Charles McConnell and Mrs Rita Sumner were honored guests at a Mother s Day dinner at the home of Charlie and Cindy Sumner at Lexington Other members of the families made up the balance of the guest list Mrs Alena Anderson. Mrs Sara Adkins. Mrs Mildred Padbcrg. and Mr and Mrs (ieorge Hinton, all of Heppner. met at a local restaurant for dinner on Sunday On Saturday, Amber, daughter of Mike and Sherry Vejraska. will celebrate her ninth birthday Guests for dinner will be Mr and Mrs Bob Harris, her father and sister. Ruth. Mrs Betty Tanner, and Amber's brotJier. John Tacos have been chosen by the young lady as the main item on the menu Mrs Harm and Mrs Tanner are the paternal and maternal grandmothers respectively from page 2 through the Governor's office and heard a good bit about the Ida Govenors The evening was spent in visiting and attending a banquet at one ot the near dining areas The nest day dawned a hit cold and rciny but did not daunt the group enthusiasm, as they were soon at the Museum, fill ed with much Idaho history and a special miniature show ing of doll*, doll houses, furniture, and other miniatures A train ride on a scenic train was truly fun. although the weather was a bit blustery The group was toured through the park saw birds, wild life, and many of the fine homes in Boise, was told a bit of the history. and heard of the amounts spent to build them, which astounded much of the gmup A tour of the business houses arul when they were built was also greatly enjoyed and a trip through the /oo A really interesting place was the penitentiary which is now a historical place as it has been mov ed to Orofino. Idaho, where there is a fine modern structure They were escorted through the old buildings, saw the cells, the death row, and where the hangings took place - on ly one person was hanged there - Military confinement cells and more The kitchen and chapel were burn ed in a riot as they were moving to to the new establishment There is a lovely rose garden which was started by the inmates, and is now cared for by Boise rose club The nest slop was the horse races at the 1-csBois Park which was in deed a lot of fun with much oral bet ting (no money exchanged hands) Then M i m e of the group attended the Little Theatre for the play Noel Coward'» "Nude With Violin" On Sunday they visited the new World Center for Birds of Prey which is an interesting program on Peregrine. Ragles, and other hawks and how they arc working to get them back in areas where they are mi lomter and how they incubate the eggs and place the baby chicks in nests in the wilds They also did many other fun things, such as visiting the Swiss Cheese factory, and the St Chap pcllc winery on this trip, then arris ed home about b p m on Sunday The trip was planned by the Morrow County Historical Society which sponsors a tour each year Plans arc already being discussed for the com ing year All who went made it a fun filled interesting trip Degree of Honor officers travel to Raker By Justine Weatherford On Saturday, May 10. seven members of the Degree of Honor Didgc No 29 from Heppner travel ed to Bukcr to take part in the district convention held in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Club Rooms The theme for the day’s ses sums was "Touch someone close to you." Members of five regional lodges attended with the Raker lodge scrv ing as the hostesses Bea Clausen. Bend, the Oregon State Director, headed a group of state officers involved The seven from Heppner were Eleanor Gonty. Bernice Nash. Shirley Connor. Ida Farra. Nina Denton, Betty Tanner and Adclle 1-aTrace Lincoln Nash accompanied the group as far as laiGrandc were he visited with his son.
