first period but Heppner sneaked to

The Killies opened things up in the
second quarter After Chance Kelly
hit one of two free throws to bring
the Cardinals to 18 14, Missy Ku
banks hit a free throw, Missy Turner
scored four points and laina Held
scored off an offensive rebound with
2:32 left in the first half to push the
Killy lead to 25 14 Kelly and Chris
Bond, who had 10 first half points
trimmed the halftime deficit to

song a trio of Heppner Killies were
the lead singers, and the last few
notes were squeaked out Just as
Heppner'* basketball tram defeated
the Corbett Cardinals 51 50 to cap
ture its first-evrr state champion
ship In any sport on Saturday,
March 15 The Killies ended their
season with a 24 1 record
Missy Kubanks. laina Reid and
Missy Turner were the trio that
carried Ihe Killies in the tournament
which ran from Wednesday. March

The Killies. Ihe second ranked
team in the «kale going into the
tournament. Just barely got by the
Amity Warriors in overtime on
Thursday aftermxm in a quarter

On Knday night the Killies were
pitted against the Crow Cougars, the
slate's lop ranked team in a champ
lonshtp semifinal game with Hep
pner winning
Amity bounced hack from its loss
to Heppner to capture the con sola
lion championship and fourth place
by beating the North Douglas War
riors 56-51 Crow meanwhile came
hack to top the (iervais Lailvcats
48 47 for third place
