groups have been an Important part
of the Kxtension education effort for
more than 50 years Participation is
voluntary and the selling is infor
mal
However, the purpose of Kxten
sion study groups is serious. Tullis
stresses
Each group is composed
of women and men who are anxious
to expand their knowledge and
improve their skills in such areas in
parenting (nod and nutrition, fin
an cial m an agem en t, c ilite n s h ip .
and consumerism
Study groups are open fo all
interested ptsiple and the groups
welcome new members and visitors
The county Kxtension office in
Heppner has a list of meeting times
and places lor each group
The
information is available by calling
«78 9842
However, if there is no study
group near you or none meeting at a
time that fits your schedule a new
group can he started by anyone at
any tune
All that * needed to start a new
group is to identify a group of people
interested in learning and set up a
meeing time and place
tiroups
range in sue from 10 in the Ithea
Creek area lo over 40 in the North
Morrow Group
Meeting places and lim es can be
set to suit the group Kor instance, if
all the participants work meeting*
could l>e hold in a convenient place
One important requirement how
ever, is the willingness of a least one
member of the group to attend the
lead er teach er train in g sessions
prior to each lesson That s because
members of the group volunteer
to take turns presenting the inlor
mation, Tullis explains
The Kxtension Service provide*
lead er teach ers w ith the hack
ground m aterial necessary lo p re
sent the lesson as well as sugges
tions for how to present the inlor
mation
Members of the Kxtension staff or
volunteers in Morrow County are
available to help urganue and plan
for a new study group
