held on February 23 at the North
west Food F air in Portland

deadline for entries is January 18
First prize is a wt-ekend for two at
Oregon's Salishan Lodge Glenrden
Beach and an a llexpi-n.se paid trip
to the National Beef Cook Off
Second prize is a f 100 shopping spree
at Kitchen Kaboodle
The three-
other finalists will each receive a
dinner cruise for two on the stern

All recipes must follow these
rules
I ) All beef cuts must come
from the chuck, round, fresh brisket,
plate, shank, or ground beef 2) The
recipe must contain a munimum of
one pound of beef and not more than

The Heppner Neighborhood Cen
ter is taking appointments for Dec
ember 7, 14 and 21 for clients who
need to meet with the lam Income
Knergy Assistance Program worker

Group appointments can be
made at 10 a m and 1 p m to get as
many clients as possible taken care
of because federal funding has been
reduced
All clients must bring proof of all
gross income
wages, pensions,
interest, dividends, grants lips, sal
anes. Adult and Fam ily Service
assistance or Cnemployment Com
pensation This year clients are also
required to have an electric bill as
well as a fuel bill for their household
which is to tie left at the Center
Medical expenses paid by the
client are the one allowable income

is an Internal Kevenue Service
program for helping jxsiple who
have problems preparing their in
come tax returns says an IKS news
release
According to the IKS volunteers
learn how to prepare a simple tax
return by successfully completing a
special training course in basic
income tax return preparation
Free classes are conducted by IKS
and the Oregon Department of Kev
enue during December and January
and the volunteers work with tax
payers at V IT A sites throughout the
tax season. January through April
