IB 4-H'ers with adult helpers and supervisors were allowed by Arme and Rita Redman to begin a cleanup project i «e- in the v acant lot behind the Hrppner Motel The project goal is a mini- park The worker« began about B a m and continued chopping, toting, ptf ing and loading brush until about U a m Columbia Hasin Klectric Co-op sent a truck and crew down to trim the higher branches from the tree grow ing near the edge of the lot The Hodeo Board donated a truck for the 4 H ers to use in hauling the refuse to the dump where they were allowed free dumping privileges The Heppner Fire Dept also got into the act when some of the workers decided that it would be benegicial to burn some of the smaller brush One fire truck and Firechief Forrie Hurkenbine helped the effort Following the morning's work, the 4 H ers received free ice cream cones and pop from the Heppner Bowl ♦I, Oregon State Fair announces entry deadlines Entry deadlines have been estab hshed for people who plan to exhibit at the 1984 Oregon State Fair. Aug 24 through Sept 3 To enter, exhibitors must first obtain a curr ent premium list which contains complete entry information Those who exhibited at last year's fair should automatically receive the 1984 premium list New exhibit ors, however, should phone or write the fair to request one The loll free number is 1800833-00II Some departments will accept entries submitted after the deadline if classes are still open These departments are as follows Com mercial and Amateur Wine Divi sion, Livestock, Floral. Agri culture Horticulture To find out which categories are still open, phone the (air commumc at ions department toll free 1800 833 0011. in Salem. 378 3247 Port of M orrow supports efforts to repeal unitary tax effects of the present unitary tax on company, not just the Louis Carlson President of the Port of Morrow and an lone real deni, has joined more than 30 other Oregonians in forming the Unitary Tax Committee, a group working to modify Oregon's unitary tax system, announced recently in a news re lease from the Unitary Tax Commit- - tee Port Manager Wayne Schwandt said that Carlson was asked by the Unitary Tax Committee to sit on a Blue Ribbon panel to advise the governor and legislature on the Oregon s economic dev elopment At a recent meeting of the Port, board members went on record supporting the governor s efforts to repeal the present unitary taxation method which prov ides for an Oregon pro perty tax on all holdings of a Search A Rescue sponsors raffle Tickets are now on sale by mem bers of the Morrow County Search and Rescue for a Homelite Chain Saw and a Sunbeam food processor The items will be first and second prize at a drawing held during the Saturday.
