Consumer Programs Committee, who are sponsoring the local county contest The Golden Wheat Carrot Cake was chosen because it is relatively inexpensive to prepare and requires a minimum of special ingredients "This is not an exotic cake." ex plained Mrs Wagenblast Most all kitchens w ill have the basic ingre dients right in their ruphoard and it features Oregon grown flour, w al nuts. and carrots " The Oregon Wheat Growers Lea gue is sponsoring the cake contest at all of Oregon's county fairs in 19(H Additional information about enter ing the contest can be obtained from the Morrow County extension office located in Heppner Or. persons may call Vicki Wagenblast. 989 815* as the local O W G L county contact person for the contest Contest rules are printed in the Morrow County Fair Premium hook, available at the County Fxtension Office and at the Gazette Times The cake recipe follows GOLDEN WHEAT CAHROT CAKE 1 cup oil 2 cups sugar 2 >4 cups sifted cake flour 2 teaspoons baking powder 1 teaspoon tiaking soda 2 teaspoons cinnamon I teaspoon salt * eggs 3 cups finely grated raw carrots I cup finely chopped Oregon walnuts Combine oil and sugar Mix well Sift together remaining dry ingre dients Sift half of dry ingredients into sugar mixture Blend Sift in remaining dry ingredients alternat ing with eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition Add carrots and mix well, mix in nuts Pour into greased and floured 10-inch bundt pan Bake in slow oven (325 degrees) about one hour. 10 minutes or until done Cool in pan upright on rack Remove to serving plate Serves 24 Ore. driver licenses will be different color beginning Aug. 1 Oregon's driver licenses w ill have a new look starting Aug t when the Motor Vehicles Division w ill begin issuing licenses and identification cards in a new color and sealed in a new more tamper proof laminate, according to David P Moomaw, Administrator DMV also w ill begin issuing photo instruction and special permits Aug l. Moomaw says The paper permits now mailed to applicants from Sa lem w ill be discontinued Oregon's new licenses and ID cards will be white instead of yellow The data card w ill be encased in a laminate which is slightly larger than the current laminate The word "OREGON" w ill appear in blue on the left hand side of the laminate The background for the photo will continue to be blue for people under age 21 and yellow for thoae 21 and over "The white color for the data card w ill make information easier to read." Mo maw says, "and the new laminate should further discourage attempts to break the seal on licens e* " Instruction permits and special permits w ill have the same format as licenses and ID cards and will include a photo The laminate for permits issued to learners under 22 w ill include the word OREGO N in light gold across the driver's person al data - the same as for licenses and ID cards issued to people under 22 years old The new format will allow permit applicants to be issued the permit in the field office instead of waiting for a paper permit to be mailed from Salem.
