Brother and sister to reign over celebration The Irish brother and sister team of Peter "Pete" Lennon and Margaret "Maggie" Mealy, both of Heppner, have been chosen as the grand marshal and queen of Hep pner's St. Patrick's Day Pa rade, Thty were born to Jim and Mary Lennon in County Lei trim; Maggie was the oldest of nine children. Their parents were farmers. Maggie came to the United Statei in 1911 at the age of 18. Her boat landed in New York, and she came by train to Heppner, where an aunt who tent for her lived. After arri ving here she did housework for people in the area. Here she met and married Pat Healy, who also came to Heppner from Ireland. The couple had five children: Patricia Gentry and Elizabeth "Lib" Daggett, both of Hep pner, Katherine Burchell of Corvallis, Francis Healy of Pendleton and the late Jim Healy. Mrs. Ilcaly's husband died in 11M9. She returned to Ireland once after coming to the U.S., about 20 years ago, and says she would like to go back to her homeland once agan. Pete came to the U S. in 1931 when he was 19. He too landed in New York and took a train to Oregon and settled in Hep pner. lie says all but two of the Lennon children came to the U.S., but now only Pete, Mag gie and their brother, Jim stayed, and all three are still living in Heppner. When he got to Heppner, Pete herded sheep for awhile and then started farming. While in the Army for four years during World War II, he met and married his wife, Carniel, of Los Angeles, Calif. After his years in the Army he and Carmel moved back to Heppner. He worked at the sawmill here, and then bought a ranch on Balm Fork near where the Willow Creek Dam site is now. Mr. Lennon has returned to Ireland three times since his move to the VS., the last time in 1942. He, too, says he would "definately" like to return to his homeland again. Cost for the meal is $3.50 for adults, $1.50 for kids age 10 and under, little ones age three and under will be served free, or the entire family can enjoy dinner for $12. The St. Patrick's Catholic Church Altar Society will be sponsoring a ham dinner and live entertainment Saturday evening from 4:30 to 7,30 at the parish hall in Heppner. Ham, scalloped potatoes, green salad, rolls, green beans, homemade pie and milk, coffee and tea are all on th menu.
