David and April Hilton Sykes, Publishers LETTERS Thanks for support To the editor: We wish to express our heartfelt appreciation to the people of Morrow County for their support of our ministry with the Lexington Christian Church. Our God is a God of love and forgiveness and it is our earnest desire that peace and compassion prevail as we leave the church. We wish good will to the church and community. If we have of fended any person we ask that they come to us that we might make it right. Although we will no longer be meeting at 160 B Street in In response To the editor: In response to the recent Hermiston Herald editorial condemning me for caring about the Rajneesh situation. The Herald flatly stated there is nothing a politician can do to help those being harrassed . by the Rajneesh or to limit Rajneesh power. The editorial defended Congressman Bob Smith's complete lack of inte rest or action by claiming that he is "not in a position to do anything about what is essen tially a local and state prob lem." I respect Senator Mark Hatfield for taking a leader ship position on this issue and conducting an investigation of Guru Bhagwan Shree Raj neesh s activities. At least one federal officeholder who rep resents the Second Congres sional District has taken a responsible attitude toward his constituents. Even though I am not yet in Congress. I personally have been able to take meaningful and constructive action to limit Rajneesh political power. I prevented Rajneesh from gaining influence within the Democratic National Lexington City Council plans public hearing The Lexington City Council will hold a public hearing during a regular council meeting on December 13. 8 p.m. at Lexington City Hail. Gilman IP retiring Chief of the City of Social Hour No Host Dinner January 10, 1984 Heppner Elks Lodge No. 358 EDITOR Lexington, we look forward to continuing our outreach with the youth in our new ministry. The Lord is leading us to expand our outreach into Eastern Oregon so that none would perish without hearing the good news of salvation and eternal life through repen tance and commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. May the truth of the real purpose of Christmas reach every heart this year. Sincerely. The Rev. Stuart Dick and family Committee by: 1 Investigating the Raj neesh to make sure I had my facts straight. 2) Reporting the possibility of political blackmail to the Democratic National Com mittee, and (3) Following up on my recommendations and insur ing that they became D.N.C. policy. If Congressman Bob Smith took a similar interest in the welfare of the citizens of the Second Congressional Dis trict, the Rajneesh situation would be less threatening to the long-time residents of this area. I thought it was time some body took action to block the growth of Rajneesh political and economic power. I did it. I'm proud of it. And. I'll continue to do it until the Rajneesh either leave Oregon or learn to live in harmony with their neighbors. (s) Larry a nn Willis DNC NW Finance Chair DNC Executive Committee Rt . 2.
