David and April Hilton Sy kes, Publishers LETTERSEDITOR i:i:.(:xwlw: Should prosecute support cases To the editor: In the past three months I have been contacted by four different women who are not receiving child support. These women have previously contac ted the Morrow County district attorney who refused to assist them. All of the women need the support for their children and most had no funds to hire a private attorney. My calls to the district attorney's office con firmed that office's refusal to help these women. In Oregon, non-payment of child support is a crime and Oregon law requires the district attorney to prosecute offenders. Those seeking help from the district attorney with child sup port problems do not understand Oregon law. When they are told no assistance is available from the district attorney, they as sume nothing can be done. These individuals, their children and others similarly situated are Obituaries Robert Rietmann LA HABRA. Calif. - Robert Rietmann, 82, of La Ha bra, Calif., formerly of lone, died October 30, 1983. Single parents often turn to welfare in these situations to adequately support their children. Without efforts to enforce the support laws, the system fails to everyone's detriment. I urge those parties interested in this matter to express their views to the district attorney, the Morrow County Court and their state legislators. Individuals with complaints should contact the attorney general's office in Salem. The state and county governments provide an ade quate budget for district attor neys. Two attorneys staff the district attorney's office. With time and money available, the district attorney has no reason to refuse to prosecute support cases.
