Varsity Fillies end season
with 6-8 win loss record
By DANA REID
The HHS varsity volleyball
team ended their season with
a 6-8 win-loss record. The
Varsity didn't do as well as
expected. They had a super
team but just couldn't get it all
together. The Fillies placed
second in the tournament at
Dufur. beating the Columbia
Christian Knights and losing
to the Dufur Rangers. The
Fillies beat Arlington once.
Pilot Rock twice, Umatilla
once, and Weston-McEwen
once. The Fillies lost to Ar
lington once, Umatilla once,
Condon twice, Weston
McEwen once and Stanfield
twice.
The varsity team consisted
of: Missy Turner (12), Lana
Reid (14), Ellen Arbogast
(20). Carolyn Hughes (22),
Pam Orr (24), Janelle
McElhany (30), Anne
McLaughlin (32), Jodi Pad
berg (34), Kelli Bergstrom
(40. Stephi Payne (42), Shelly
Biddle (44), and Coach Barb
Stefani.
When asked bow the Fiiiu
thought the season turned out,
they replied:
"Good luck next year Fil
lies! We didn't have a bad
season this year; we just had
trouble playing as a team. The
Fillies have an excellent
chance to be district champs
next year!" said player Anne
McLaughlin.
"I felt that we had a good
volleyball team. To me, being
able to work hard as a team
and to put out the effort to win
is what counts. During four
years of volleyball, I've had
several people remind me that
winning isn't everything,"
said plaver Carolyn Hughes.

"The season started off well
with lots of hard teamwork.
That was all dropped as we
started playing as individuals.
We had a hard time getting
started in the games but
sometimes we pulled through.
Coach Stefani helped us a lot
with all her new skills and
ideas." said Kelli Bergstrom.
"I thought the season could
have had a lot better turnout
than it did. We needed to end
out each game the way we
started. We could have had a
good record if we would have
got it together," said Lana
Reid.
"The season got off to a

over and the Fillies started to
catch up with the Blue Devils.
As Heppner served the ball
over the net the score was 7-10
in the Blue Devils" favor, but
Heppner was reallv Mimd
back in there and fighting for
it. The serve was a good hard
one but Condon got it back
over and the Fillies received
the ball and a nice set and a
good hard spike got Heppner
another point. The Fillies
stdarted to slow down towards
the end of the match and just
couldn't get it together and the
match went to the Blue Devils.
The score was 15-9.
Condon started the second
match with a good serve.
Heppner wasn't moving
enoueh and gave two points
away to the Blue Devils. Con
don served again and the ball
didn't quite make it over so
the serve went to Heppner.
Heppner had a nice net serve
and it was back to Condon
again. Heppner just couldn't
quite get it together and star
ted to slow down. The Blue
Devils pulled way ahead and
the Fillies got a little upset
and couldn't play their best
but when they finally started
to shape up they didn't give
themselves enough time to
catch up and Condon won the
match for the game. The score
was 15-3.
"We just didn't have it
