Wash. The young man joins
twin brothers at home. The

Gerry Messenger is a pa
tient in Adventist Hospital in
Portland and is recuperating
from major surgery there on
Monday.

Co-op annual meeting dinner
on Thursday. Nov. 10 at the
fairgrounds in Heppner. Plans
were also discussed for a
Pomona Grange luncheon at
the lexington Grange Hall on
Octoter 29 Final plans for the
turkey dinner and the Blue Mt.
Fiddler's Concert were made.
It will te held Saturday, Oct.
15. at Iexington Grange Hall
at 6pm
An election of officers was

elected chairman, Luella
Taylor as vice-chairman.

The district contest is sche
duled for October 22, 9 am. at
St Patrick's Catholic Parish
Hall in Heppner.
Ruth McCabc, district di
rector for Umatilla, Morrow,
Gilliam and Wheeler counties
is hoping for more than 30
entries this year. If there are
30 or more, the district may
send three to state rather than
only two The winning junior
and senior participants auto
matically earn a trip to state.
Sub teen and adults win
awards locally, but do not go
on to further competition.
A public fashion show fol
lows at 1:30 p.m. where all
fashions are modeled and
award winners are an
nounced For a fall preview of the
newest fashions, be sure to
attend the show, or even
better, sew with wool and be a
part of it.

High School last Wednesday
night, over 30 interested and
enthusiastic people formed
the new community theater
group.
The Individual members,
ranging in aRe from 15 months
to the 90s. introduced them
selves and discussed possible
activities for this season.
Many were interested
in nrosenfing a musical this
winter, possibly on January 19
and 20. and a full-length
comedy or drama early in
May. Giving shorter perfor
mances such as one-act plays,
skits and readings for special
audiences was also discussed.
After brainstorming titles for
the larger productions. the
group formed volunteer com
mittees to Investigate royal
ties, scripts and other mate
rials to report at the next
Monday, Oct. 17. 7 p.m.. in

Nurse Pat Wright will conduct
a blood pressure clinic at the
Heppner Neighborhood Center
on Tuesday. Oct. 18. from 2:30
to 4 :30 p.m. Flu shots will also
ho available during that time.
Adult and Family Services
Counselor Janet Phillips will
be at the center on Wednes
day. Oct. 19. from 9 a m. to 12
noon. Food stamp applications
are available at the center
during regular business hours.
A Social Security represen
