Tuesday. Sept. 27. the Hep
pner Fillies' "C" team played
their first game of the season.
It was at Heppner against the
lone Cardinals.
The first match .was a good
one for the Fillies. They were
very consistent at their
serves They made the Cardi
nals really hustle for the ball.
The Fillies won the first match
with a score of 15-13.
The second match wasn't
quite as good for the Fillies.
Their serves were still going
over ts net but when the ball
was received and sent back
over by the Cardinals, the
Fillies just weren't quite
ready for the ball. The second
match went to the Cardinals.
15-4.
This brought the Fillies and
Cardinals to a third match.
There was pressure on both
teams. But because it was a
home game, the Fillies felt a
bit more pressure. The Cardi
nals were serving really well
and making the Fillies hustle
for the ball. The Fillies didn't
have quite enough teamwork
to pull through so the match
and game went to the Cardi
nals. The score of the third
match was 15-11.
"We did good for the first
game." "Need more team
work." "Did a good job."
"The game was okay, we
could have played better as a
team." were a few comments
from the "C" team players.
"Not bad for the first game.
The game mostly consisted of
serves and receiving. They
had more trouble with receiv
ing than serving. We had a
little trouble with teamwork
but for the first game it's
understandable." says
Heppner Coach Karen Howe.

Fillies win 2nd league game against Umatilla Vikings
By DANA RF.ID
The varsity Fillies played
their second league game of
the season against the Uma
tilla Vikings at Umatilla on
Thursday, Sept. 29.
The first match was a good
one for the Fillies. They came
out on the floor fired up and
redv to plav. The Fillies were
working hard to get the ball on
the Vikings' side of the court.
The way the Fillies played the
first match, it looked like they
could win the game easily.
The Fillies played super and
had excellent team work. The
first match went to the Fillies.
The score was 15-6.
The second match was a
little tougher The Vikings
knew they needed to win this
match to stay in the game.
The Fillies continued to play a
super game. Their serves
were excellent. They were
hitting them right over the
net. and hard. The Fillies
made the Vikings really move
to get the ball. The Fillies
were playing very well at the
net. both w hen the ball was on
the Filies' side and when it
was on the Viklings' side of the
net. The Fillies were blocking
very well. The Vikings had
some very hard spikes but the
Fillies either blocked them
right back down or picked
them up as they were heading
for the floor. The Fillies were
also spiking iiicm down hard.

playing against bigger, more
experienced people.

our full potential and we need

Fillies and it was a close one,
The match went to the Vi

The Fillies started the third
match with a tough serve,

ready for the return. The
Filies were playing very well.
They had super team work
and excellent serves. It was an
exciting match to watch. The
Fillies stayed in the lead most
of the way through the match,
Heppner was really working
hard and showed what playing
as a team meant. The third
match and game went to the
Fillies. It was u well played
game by both the Fillies and
