Oct. 1, 1983, near Heppner. Funeral services will be held at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6. at Heppner High School gym. The Rev. John Maas will officiate. Musical selections will be by Jim Ackley. Concluding services and interment will be at Heppner Masonic Cemetery. He was born December 30, 1965 at Redmond, the son of James H. Klukkert and Sha ron A. Jasker. They moved to this area five years ago. He was a member of Future Farmers of America, 4-H and the Heppner High School Band. Survivors include his par ents. James and Sally Kluk kert of Lexington and Sharon and Mark Sowa of Bend; sisters Cindy of Long Beach, Calif, and Deanna of Bend; stepsister Sherriel Hill Combs of Sacramento, Calif.; step brother Kenneth Combs of Mather A.F.B., Calif.; pater nal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Lee Klukkert of Prine ville; and maternal grand parents Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wolkau of Alsea, Oregon. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kent Klukkert Memorial Scholar ship Fund through the Bank of Eastern Oregon in Heppner. Sweeney Mortuary, Hep pner, is in charge of arrange ments. Donald E. Turner HEPPNER Donald E. Turner, 64, formerly of Hep pner, died Friday, Sept. 30, 1983 at his home in Portland. A graveside memorial ser vice was held Wednesday, Oct. 5. at Heppner Masonic Cemetery. The Rev. Ed Watts and the Rev. Don Shelton officiated. Ritualistic partici pation was by the Hepner Masonic Lodge. Turner was born June 13, 1919. in Heppner. the son of Jesse and Virginia (Craw ford ) Turner. He was gradua ted from the University of Oregon in 1942. On September 12. 1943, he married Janet B. Roberts in Portland. He received a law degree from Northwestern in 1948. From 1958 to 1969, he ope rated a wheat and cattle ranch in Morrow County. He moved to Eugene in 1969, and served as president of the Eugene Chamber of Commerce in 1975. In Eugene, he was an insurance broker. He retired, and moved to Portland in 1982. Turner was a 32-degree Mason. From 1964-66 be was the Republican party state treasurer. In 1976, he ran unsuccessfully for the fourth district congressional seat. Survivors include his wife, Janet Turner, Portland; daughter, Virginia Lou Daley, Auburn, Calif.; sons Jeffery 0. of Portland, and Thomas M. of Eugene; and three grandsons. Everyone eligible is asked to come pick up their cheese. Morrow County Health Nurse Pat Wright will conduct a Flu Vaccine Clinic during the regular blood pressure clinic she conducts at the center. The next blood pres sure clinic will be held Tues day. Oct. 18, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Instructor Joy Krein has started holding Adult High School Diploma and G.E.D. D.A.'s Report The Morrow County District Attorney's office at the Mor row County Courthouse in Heppner handled the following cases September 29: Ivan Dieter, 61, Boardman, pleaded not guilty to a charge of alleged First Degree Sexual Abuse in Morrow County Cir cuit Court. The case is to go to trial on November 16. Arthur J. Martinez. 24. of Umatilla, was arraigned and pleaded not guilty to alleged Felony Driving While Re voked in circuit court. No trial date has yet been set. Danny Lopez, 19, or Arling ton, entered a not guilty plea to a charge of alleged Crimi nal Negligent Homicide in circuit court. The trial date has been set for November 4. . Charles A. Vandetta, 38. of Heppner. pleaded guilty to a charge of No Operator's Li cense. He was fined $55 in district court. James Crismon, 33. no ad dress available, was ar raigned on a charge of unau thorized use of a motor vehicle. Heppner Nazarene plans weekend activities "Exciting things will be happening this weekend at the Heppner "Church of the Naza rene," according to a church spokesperson. A Work and Witness Team from First Church of the Nazarene in Spokane. Wash, is coming to Heppner to help put a new roof on the parson age, providing insulation for the church and prasonage, and will be helping with property improvement. Hospital Notes The following patients were admitted and released from Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Heppner during the past week: Sandy Kelsay, Heppner -admitted October 1, released October 2: and Donna O'Neal, Heppner -admitted October 1, released October 2. These patients were still receiving care at the hospital as of Monday. Oct. S. Correction A picture caption apeparing in last week's Gazette-Times with the story "Lexington woman wins Most Improved Yard award" was incorrect. Garden Club member Dorothy Burcham presented the gift certificate to winner Suzanne Vinson. Pastor Floyd Wilks and. a member of the work team, will be sharing his experien ces in Samoa on a Work and Witness project there. He will be showing slides in a special service Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the church. Roger Schmidt, youth pas tor from Spokane First Church will be sharing in the Sunday 11 a.m. service, which will be followed by a potluck dinner, the spokesperson said. HUNTERS Save Your Sheriffs Report The Morrow County Sher iff's Department at the Mor row County Courthouse in Heppner handled the following calls, cases and reports during the past week: On September 2, Jeffrey N. Koonce, 19. of Hermiston, was arrested by Irrigon Police Department officers for al leged First Degree Theft. He was lodged at the Umatilla Jail. In another September 26 incident. Bill D. Breeding, 27, of Milton-Freewater, was ar rested for allegedly Driving While Suspended. He posted bail and was released. On September 29, the Army Corps of Engineers office in Heppner reported the theft of 25 gallons of gasoline from their vehicles. Also on September 29, Bruce A. Brown. 36. of Hermiston, was arrested by Oregon State Police of Hermiston on seven warrants for allegedly Nego tiating a Bad Check in Morrow County. He was lodged at the Umatilla County Jail. On September 30, a one vehicle accident was reported at the intersection of Highway 207 and Willow Creek Road. The driver was Joe A. Minor, 35. of Hood River. There were no injuries. Minor was arres ted by a sheriff's officer for allegedly Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants. He posted bail and was released. On October 1. a one vehicle accident was reported on Balm Fork Road, south east of Heppner. Driver of the vehicle reportedly failed to negotiate a curve and the vehicle rolled. The driver and passengers were all juveniles. One pas senger. Kent Klukkert. 17. of Lexington, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and one passenger were taken to Pioneer Memorial Hospital. The other two passengers were checked at the hospital and released. , On October 2. Tom Jones of the U.S. Forest Service office in Heppner received a call from a Kinzua fire lookout plane and was advised that there were two hunters ap proximately two miles east of Penland Lake that were ap parently lost and needed help. The sheriff's office was con tacted and Sergeant Verlin Denton contacted Dwayne Carroll of Hermiston. Carroll donated his time and helicop ter to find the hunters. Carroll and Denton flew into the area and picked up the hunters, James Mehigamn. 43. and his son. Patrick. 10. both of Hood River. Anne Charlotte Lewis - A daughter, Anne Charlotte, was born to Charles and Victoria Sykes Lewis of Portland at St. Vincent Hospital in Portland on September 30, 1983. She weighed 7 lbs., 14 oz. and measured 19 inches long. Grandparents are Madeline and Charles Lewis of Tucson, Arizona and Earl Sykes of Gardiner. Anne joins a brother, Max, age three, at home.
