A send off of 30 helium filled balloons, a special speaker, a picnic and a mortgage burn ing celebration marked the ,10th anniversary of the local Nazarene Church. The church opened August U, 1953 in lone with the Rev. Wilfred McKay, pastor. In 1959. the present building at 345 Gilmore St. was construc ted and the church transferred to Heppner. The Rev. Charles Wilkes was featured speaker during the morning worship service. He and his wife. Lois, pastored the church in lone from 1956 to 1959. They are now pastoring the First Church of the Naza rene in Yakima. Wash. Another highlight of the day was the presenting of a Dis tinguished Service Award to Ralph and Lou Crum of lone, "for their 30 years of outstand ing service and support to the church," said the Rev. Floyd Wilks, present pastor of the church. Wilks explained that the church purchased the award from Nazarene head quarters in Kansas City. The money vised to purchase the award is used for missionary work. He added that he be lieves that the Crums' award was the first given in this area. By BIRtHNE TITUS Program Assistant Morrow Co. Intension Service Team honors in a horse judging contest last Saturday went north with the Desert Pegasas Club of Irrigon. Members of the top Judging team were Hank Vazza, Rren- da Malhis. and Dawn Timms, The Judging event was part of the 4 H Morse Show Satur day. Top teams are eligible to compete at state. Second place team honors went to the Heppner Two Trackers team of Shelley Stroeber, Annette Wilgers and Ted Schwa rz. Third and fourth places went to teams of three made up of members of a number of clubs. Top individual judging honors went to Cathy Lindsay. Tic kets will sell for one dollar each Two drawings will be held September 15, and if the winners live within 20 miles of Heppner, their wood will be delivered. Little League players will have a display of wood in a wheelbarrow at the fair grounds and will begin selling tickets on Monday at 2 p.m., and will continue through Family Fun Nite on Tuesday. Those who are unable to at tend the fair but would like to purchase tickets, may contact Bob and Joy Krein, Susan Johnston. Bob Ployhar, Peggy and Earl Fishburn or Sandy and Dick Devin. Proceeds will be used to help purchase fence materiuls that will lie used at a new ballpark below Willow Creek Dam.
