Jim Ackley, a former Heppner
hand instructor, started the
Croup back in 1974 with Matt
Greenup In the next three years
they were joined by Steve John
son, Hill Kenny and Scott McKw
en In 1979 the band broke up and
Ackley would play with a few
friends now then He was joined
by Wayne Seit, Lottie Laughlin,
Joe Mollahan. Jim Angell. and
J.isa Nix just to name a few.
Some people would leave and
other would play.
In I December 'K the new Jim
Acklev band was formed with
Matt Greenup. Wayne Seit,
Bruce Hrownell, Kevin Gutier
rez. Faith Seit. anil Ackley The
band played at Queen Uittie's
coronation for their first appear
ance They just completed providing
the background music for a tele
vision commercial in the Tn
Cities Acklev is now a band instructor
at Columbia Junior High in Jrri
Con The hand's music has changed
over the years hut their style has
lcen pleasing lo everyone
If you are going to the Morrow
County Fair and Rodeo this year,
then plan to stop at the horse
barns to see the horses of the
royal court. Queen Lottie Laugh
Jin and princesses Dawn Timms
and Sylvia Ladd will have their
official mounts settled in the
stalls.
The pennant bearers" horses
will be right along side as Dyann
Brosnan. Bridged Greenup. Bob
bet te Angell and Stacey Kennedy
will keep their horses ready for
the grand entries and parade.
The girls have painted the stall
doors and Queen Lottie's family
have made plaques for each door.
Special booth compiled by Fair
and Rodeo Court
Queen Lottie Laughlin and
princess Sylvia Ladd and Dawn
Timms will have a booth during
the fair. The court has compiled a
display of their many trips and
appearances this year.
In addition, the court will be
available to visit with at the booth
during the fair.
'Craft Yard'added to fair events
One of the new ideas for County
Fair this year is a "Craft Yard"
where a number of local artists
and craft people will display and
demonstrate their skills. Planned
as a one-day Tuesday only event
this year, if a popular addition, it
will be expanded in the future
Iok for this new addition to
County Fair on the lawn area
between the dorm and show barn.
