July 21. 1983 Local boys enjoy Cub Scout Day Camp Twenty boys from Heppner, lone and Lexington partici pated in Cub Scout Day Camp held at the fairgrounds in Heppner last week. Skills from Robin Hood's time were tauRht during the week and crafts were made. On Friday afternoon a tour nament was held. The grand champions were: Archery Shane Eng. Catapult Corey Sweeney. Quarterstaff Richard Pettyjohn and Horse shoes Peter Pearson. A potluck dinner and camp fire were held Friday night to close the camp. Various awards were presented. Re ceiving awards for three years of attendance were campers A! Burt and Jim Holtz. Lead ers helping for three years were Martha Munkers and Dale Cox. "As the boys were leaving camp Friday night one could hear them talking about coming back next year and what they hope to do." said a scouting leader. Lap swim offered at Heppner pool A lap swim for adults only will be held at the Heppner Swimming Pool ' each Tues day. Wednesday and Thurs day from 9 to 9:30 p.m. Cost of each session will be 75 cents. Heppner Elks Lodge gives $870 to Elk's Childern's Eye Clinic A donation of $49,213 has been given to the Elks Child ren s Eye Clinic by the Oregon State Elks Association; of the total. $870 was donated by the H eppner Lodge, reports Tom Kruse of the Oregon Health Sciences University. This relationship between the Elks and the Department of Ophthalmo logy at University Hospital began in July. 1949. with the Establishment of the Elks are being gathered now, and that 50 percent funding for the project will be available from the Corps of Engineers. Local funding for the project has not been secured; how ever. Hayes said sources are being investigated.
