Polygraph purchase unnecessary
To the editor:
With all due respect to the
parties involved, I must state
that the purchase of a poly
graph machine for Morrow
County seems to be unneces
sary. The Morrow County Sher
iff's Department has a large
area to cover every day and
night. The vehicles driven by
the Sheriffs Department must
be in top notch condition to
give the people all over Mor
row County their best service.

The Morrow County Public
Works Department has re
lpased the following Road
Report:
Road work done in the Irri-gon-Boardman
area included:
cold patching on Eighth Street
west. Road No. 913, South
Main-Kinkade, Peters and
Boardman-Irrigon roads.
Brush was cut and cleaned up
along roadsides of Boardman
Irrigon. Irrigon Frontage and
Peters roads. Sand was
cleaned off Irrigon Road No,
816 and Irrigon-Slaughter
roads. Shoulders were built-up
on Kunze Road and forms are
being prepared for bridge
work on Patterson-Ferry
Road.
Roads that were bladed in
cluded: Dick Smith-McNabb
west, Emma White and Wy-
land.
The chip spreader and rol
ling and blading equipment
are working on the M. Baker,
Halvorsen and the north end of
lone-Gooseberry roads where
gravel, oil and cold mix are
being distributed for a new
road surface.
Shoulders are still being
widened as well as other
shoulder work being done and
gravel being spread on Pine
City Road to Little Butter
Creek Road.
A new culvert was installed
on Piper Canyon Road and a
culvert extension added on
Myers Road.

City. Keck Canyon, Baseline,
Ione-Boardman, Basey Can
yon and west of Halvorsen
Road.
Correction
A recipe published in the
CowBelle Corner of last
week's Gazette-Times for zuc
chini lasagna was incorrectly
printed. The recipe also calls
for one 12 oz. can of tomato
paste.

knowing that Morrow County
has the only polygraph ma
chine in Eastern Oregon if a
sheriff's car breaks down on
the way to a crime or acci
dent. Let the State Police continue
the polygraph service for
Morrow County.

engagement of their daughter, Darcy Ann, to Jay A. Coil,
both of Pendleton. He is the son of John W. Coil of Eager,
Arizona.
A fall wedding date of October 22, has been set.
Darcy is employed at the Oregon Bank, Pendleton Branch
and Jay is with McCormmach Ranches, Pendleton.

The Morrow County Sher
ifff's Department at the Mor
row County Courthouse in
Heppner handled the following
calls, cases and reports during
the past week:
On July 11. Heppner am
bulance responded to a Hep
pner residence for a person
who was having breathing
problems.
On July 12, the Boardman
Fire Department responded to
a grass fire at the junction of
Interstate 84 and Highway 730.
Also on July 12. the Morrow
County Sheriff's Department
took a report of damage done
to farm equipment from Wes
ley R. Moore of Boardman.
On July 15. a grass fire was
reported behind the Riverview
Motel at First and Front
streets in Boardman.
On July 18. an ambulance
was requested behind Cal'i
Cafe in Heppner for an Injured
male. The patient was trans
ported to Pioneer Memorial
Hospital in Heppner.
CowBelles to
meet Friday
The Morrow County Cow
Belles will meet at 9 a.m. on
Friday. July 22. in the confe
rence room at the extension
office In Heppner, announced
Sue Evans, president of the
group.
Fair activities will be plan
ned during the meeting she
said.
Anyone wanting to attend is
welcome, she said.
Lexington author Sam McMil
lan which tell the story of his
home town. Copies of "The
Bunchgrassers" are now
being sold at the museum for
$7.50 each. McMillan said the
money from their sale is to go
to the museum for purposes
the board approves.
Before concluding their
meeting, board members
established a schedule for
regular bi-monthly meetings.
They agreed to meet on the
second Tuesday of alternate
months at 7:30 p.m. Their next
meeting will be on September
20.
