Opal M. Key
HEPPNER - Opal M. Key.
83, of Heppner, died Thursday,
June 31. 1983. in Heppner.
She was born July 8, 1899, in
Manes, Mo., the daughter of
James and Minnie Hesley
Bennett. She married John
Key on October 20, 1920, to
Missouri. The couple moved to
the Heppner area in 1930. "
Mrs. Key had attended the
Methodist Church. She was an
avid sportsman and enjoyed
hunting and fishing.
Graveside services were
held July 2 at Heppner Ma
sonic Cemetery with the Rev.
Rob Andrews-Bryant officia
ting. Vault interment followed
the service.
Survivors include a daugh
ter, Lois Hunt, Lexington; a
son, Doyle Key, Heppner; a
sister, Ethel Walker, Moun
tain Grove, Mo.; and two
grandchildren.
Contributions may be made
to the Pioneer Memorial Hos
pital memorial fund.

Vaughn
HEPPNER - Hazel Gilliam
Vaughn, 90, a Heppner native,
died Sunday, July 3, at Pio
neer Memorial Hospital,
where she had been a patient
for many years.
She was born in Heppner on
July 25, 1892, to Frank and
Effie Wright Gilliam.
On June 14, 1911, she mar
ried Charles Vaughn in Port
land. A lifetime resident of Hep
pner, she was a member of the
United Methodist Church.
Graveside services were
held July 1 at Heppner Mason
ic Cemetery with the Rev. Rob
Andrews-Bryant officiating.
Mrs. Vaughn was preceded
in death by her husband and a
daughter, Louise Vaughn.
Survivors include five
nephews: Louis Gilliam of
Condon, Bishop Jackson Gil
liam, Helena, Mont., Howard
William of Milton, Wash., and
Frank and Clinton Gilliam,
addresses unknown.
Contributions may be made
to the memorial fund of Pio
neer Memorial Hospital.

The Morrow County Sher
iffs Department at the Mor
row County Courthouse in
Heppner handled the following
calls, cases and reports during
the past week:
On June 27, a 1978 Yamaha
motorcycle that had been re
ported stolen by Oregon State
Police in Hermiston was re
covered in a field near Peters
and Wilson roads in Board
man. Also on June 27. the Heppner
City Police Department re
sponded to a motor vehicle
accident at 510 S. Main St. The
vehicle was being pushed so it
would start on Skyline Drive
when it rolled out of control
down Chase Street, then
veered off to the left across
fields where it finally crashed
into a house at 510 S. Main.
The vehicle was owned by
Patty Toombs of Heppner.
On June 28, the Boardman
Fire Department responded to
a fire south of the West Exten
sion Irrigation District Canal
off Paul Smith Road.
Also on June 28. the Morrow
County Sheriff's Department
took a report of vandalism to a
fence at Desert Springs Es
tates in Boardman. Damage
was estimated at $500.
On July 2, LaVerae Van
Marter III, of Heppner, re
ported his 1976 Ford pickup
stolen from his residence to
the Heppner City Police De
partment. The vehicle was
located on July 3 by the
Oregon State Police on a U.S.
Forest Service road just inside
the Wheeler County line.
On July 3, the Boardman
Fire Department responded to
a grass fire on Columbia Ave.,
Boardman.
In a second July 3 incident,
that fire department respon
ded to a grass fire underneath
the overpass going into the
Boardman park.
On July 4; Ralph Neil
Beamer, 47, of Heppner, was
arrested for allegedly Driving
Under the Influence of Intoxi
cants by a sheriff's deputy.

Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Cutsforth
Ann Marie Bellinger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bob
Bellinger of Hermiston, became the bride of Jerry Orville
Cutsforth in an April 16 ceremony at the First Christian
Church in Hermiston. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Fritz Cutsforth of Heppner. Delbert Troxell officiated at the
ceremony.
The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a formal
gown of organza with a Queen Anne neckline trimmed in silk
Venice lace and seed pearls. The full bishop sleeves of
English net were trimmed in matching lace. A deep flounced
. ruffle of Schiffli embroidered net enhanced the hem and fell
gracefully into a chapel length train. A panel of Schiffli lace
also enhanced the train.
A caplet of silk Venice lace held a two-tiered pencil-edged
veil of fingertip length. Silk Venice appliques trimmed the
edges.
Maid of honor was Debbie Pimentel. Bridesmaids were
Kris Rogerson, Trade Vanek and Sandi Adams, cousin of the
bride. The brides attendants wore identical full-length peach
dresses with head wTeaths of peach and white flowers.
Best man was Jeff Carlson of Milton-Freewater. Ushers
were Jack Bellinger, brother of the bride; Mark Cutsforth,
brother of the groom; and Jeff Cutsforth, cousin of the
groom.
Wedding music, sung by Melissa Brewer, included "We've
Only Just Begun" and "Truly. '
A wedding reception was held at the Quarter Master
Restaurant at McNary.
Jan and Pam Adams, cousins of the bride, attended the gift
table. Alida Eubanks, also a cousin of the bride, attended the
guest book.
After a wedding trip to Disneyland, the couple is at home in
Heppner.
The groom, a graduate of Heppner High School and
Eastern Oregon State College, is employed by Fritz Cutsforth
Land Company.
The bride graduated from Hermiston High School and is a
junior at Eastern Oregon State College.

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Yocom
Paulette Renee Eddy and Jack Richard Yocom were
married in a 2 p.m. June i ceremony at Highland Park
Community Church in Casper, Wyo. Parents of the couple
are Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Eddy of Denver, Colo, and Mr. and
Mrs. Joe Yocom of Lexington.
The Rev. Oral Withrow officiated at the ceremony.
The bride'i floor length gown with train was made of peau
de soie and was designed by Sassoon. It had a standing lace
collar with a sheer yoke with a deep ruffle edged in lace. A
gathered skirt with roses of self fabric fell from a V bodice.
The sheer full sleeves had wide cuffs trimmed in lace
fastened with tiny self fabric buttons. The sheer derby was
covered with matching fabric and Tace; the veil was train
length of bridal illusion trimmed in lace.
Her designed bouquet of silk flowers consisted of roses,
carnations, morning glories, forget me nots, and babies'
breath, trimmed in lace and bridal illusion with streamers of
ribbon.
Sheri Priest of Denver, a cousin of the bride, was maid of
honor. Velda Edney, of Denver, a sister of the bride was
bridesmaid.
They both wore lilac gowns, also designed by Sassoon, of
peau de soie. The dresses had a self fabric standing collar
with V-yokes, set off by a ruffle. The bodice had a V shaped
wiast and gathered skirt with a hemline ruffle edged In lilac
lace. Full length sleeves with wide cuffs were fastened with
tiny self fabric buttons.
The maid of honor carried a bouquet of lilac morning glory
and white carnations, trimmed in lace, and lilac ribbons. The
bridesmaid carried a bouquet of lilac morning glory,
trimmed in lace, and lilac and pink ribbon.
Best man was Eric Clow of Hermiston. Groomsman was
Terry Binfet of Rapid City, South Dakota.
A reception was held at the church following the ceremony.
Shawnette Priest, a cousin of the bride, cut cake. Judy
Walden served punch. Francette Priest, another cousin of the
bride, was in charge of the guest book.
After a wedding trip to the Oregon Coast, the couple is at
home in Casper, Wyo.
The groom is a 1978 graduate of Heppner High School and is
currently employed with Central Contracting of Casper.
The bride is a 1980 graduate of Thornton High School,
Thornton, Colorado.

The Morrow County Clerk's office at the Morrow County
Courthouse in Heppner accepted marriage license applica

Here's a delightful salnd
filling that can be used in one
of those big sandwiches or Just
served as a salad. It should be
kept refrigerated to be safe.
It's especially inexpensive
when made with turkey hind
quarters. Summer Poultry Salad
S cups diced, cooked chicken
or turkey
1 cup diced celery
1 cup seedless grapes
'1 cup mayonnaise
1H teaspoon soy sauce
H teaspoon curry powder
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 cup seedless grapes
Mix the poultry, celery and
grapes together. Then in a
separate bowl mix the rest of
the ingredients together. Then
combine the two mixtures.
Serve as a sandwich filling or
salad.
Instant Cocoa Mix
3 cups instant dry milk
Two-thirds cups sugar
teaspoon salt
S tablespoons cocoa
Put milk, sugar and salt in a
container. Sift In cocoa. Mix
together.
To make cocoa: fill the cup
two-thirds full of hot water
and then add about one-third
cup mix. If the mix is added to
the water, there won't be
lumps as it's stirred.
