Family history stories for
the Morrow County History
Book have been picked up and
sent to the publisher, said
a committee spokesperson;
however, there is still a short
time to get memorial and
tribute pages in, and articles
of community interest. The
number of histories and book
sales exceeded the required
amount for publication.
"If you are still interested in
obtaining a book, there is
some time left before the book
actually goes to the printers,"
she said.

Starr was a school winner in
this year's National Math Con
test and has represented Mor
row County in the State Spel
ling Contest during two of his
four years at HIS. He also was
a winner of the "Voice of
Democracy" essay contest at

He was quarterback on the
varsity football team for four
years, was voted first team
defensive linebacker and se
cond team quarterback on Big
Sky 1982 All Star team, played

office has reported that 71
percent of lone voters turned
out at the polls last Tuesday
for a special levy election for

This Sunday. May 29, activi
ties for the Pioneer Memorial
Picnic at the fairgrounds in
Heppner will begin in the
pavilion building at 10 a.m.
when folks can come through
the registration line until 12:30
12:30 p.m. and can enjoy visit
ing before the 1 p.m. dinner

mists will again handle the
registration.
The picnic hosts, descen
dants of pioneers Albert and
Julia Wright, ask families to
bring along a dessert or an
appropriate salad to go with
the baked ham. rolls, coffee
and punch being provided.
Out-of-towners who find it
awkward to bring food along
and others who wish may
contribute cash at the regis
tration tables to assist with
necessary expenses for the
large dinner. .
The Wright families are
arranging an interesting photo
display which should please
manv. The day's program will
begin with the Presentation of
Colors under the leadership of
Commander Edward Baker,
American Legion Post No. 87,
Heppner. Cliff Aldrich will
give a dedication, including
the reading of the names of
county veterans. Gene Riet

Shrine Football Team, placed
third in an Elks Most Valuable
Student Contest and was
named a 1983 United States
National Award winner in
football.

Agent John Nordheim of Hep
pner will begin a new assign
ment in Grant County on June
I. He and his wife, Debbie, and
their daughter, Carta, plan to
live in John Day.
Nordheim has served as 4-H
and livestock agent in Morrow
County since 1979. One of his
accomplishments was organi
zing a regional lamb market
