ustangs end rocky season with disappointing loss Fillies lose last game to Rockets The Hpppnrr Gazette-Time, Heppner, Oregon, Thursday, February 24, 1983 FIVE Center in need of volunteers BvNFOLAMACKEY By (il.FNN SMITH Friday, Feb. If), (he Hop poor Mustangs ended Ihfir rocky season with a disap pointing home loss to the Pilot Rock Rockets, 71 - 61, Head coach Rrent F.RRcrs commented, "The game star ted out all right but their press killed us." , The rockets succeeded in outscorinR the Mustangs, 22 4. in the second quarter and establishing a 15 point lead by halftime, 35 20. "That was pretty much the fjame," KRfiers stated, "We tried to come back In the second half and succeeded in cutting Pilot Rock's lead to 6 points late in the game, but that was the closest u-e came." Kwrs believed that the main reason they lost the ball game was that they couldn't overcome the Rockets' press. "They're the first team that's ever done that to us. We just kept throwing it away." said EgRcrs. Another key was an old problem that cropped up to plague the cagers on their last game. "We had too many fouls." Fggers said, "They beat our 8 - 4 lead in the first quarter by shooting free throws. After that we seemed to lose our intensity through out the second quarter but the team regained it in the second half." Fggers also believed that the Mustangs concentra tion was poor, which can come about in a highly emotional game "I was disappointed over all.' Eggers went on to say, "As were most of the play ers." This game ends the Mustang Basketball season with S - 7 in league action and 11-9 for the season, tying for third pJace with Umatilla in our division. Pilot Rock will go on to district with Weston Mc Kwen. Statistically both Mike Cur rin (27 points. 17 rebounds) and Jeff Orr 10 points, 10 rebounds) had good games Summing up the game, Eg gers commented. "Their press and our fouls cost us the game They shot a lot better than I thought they would and our bench wasn't as magical as it had been in earlier games We didn't achieve all the goals I had set but we had a lot of good moments to remember. The highlight of the season was giving Weston McFwen one of their two losses The key thing is that e were competitive. We only jot really blown out once and his is an important factor. An mporlant part of next year ivill be turning earlier losses nto wins." "When teams come to play is." Eggers added. "They (new they were in for a game, arsity has a lot of pressure md you get more upset when 'ou lose because it means nore. Overall, we had fun and I was a good growing exper ience for everyone. Right no; Federal regulations are being restructured to substitute competition for regulation in the telephone industry. This is changing the way you will get telephone service from us. But what's not changing now, and won't in the future, is our concern for treating our customers fairly. So we want you to know that if you purchased a PNB Standard, Princess or Trimline' telephone (which you were previously renting) between July 31 and December 31, 1982, we may owe you some money. Because you paid a higher price than people who bought phones after January L Your rebate is figured by subtracting the current phone price from the higher price you paid And then de ducting the per month sav ings you realized during the months you owned, instead of rented, your telephone. You dorft have to do anything to get your refund If it turns out we owe you money, an adjustment will be made to your account by May 1,1983.
