A person can readily see by walking the main street of Heppner. Instead of horse droppings on the street you have to be careful to watch where you step or you get into dog stools all along the walks. Obituaries Arthur R. Crawford, Sr. SAN FRANCISCO. Calif. -Arthur R. Crawford. Sr., 89. a former Heppner resident of the San Francisco Bay Area, died February 2. 1983 at Fre mont. Calif. He w as born June 3. 1893 and was a member of Eastern Oregon pioneer families, the Cra '.Words and the Spencers, and was a Heppner native. His father, Vawter Craw ford, became owner-publisher of the Heppner Gazette-Times in 1910. It was a family opera tion from father to sons. Ar thur Crawford worked on the paper as a printer, reporter, delivery boy and worked with advertising until he went to the University of Oregon to major in journalism. He then married and went to Califor nia to work in San Francisco where he became editor of two weekly publications, "Snip py g Register" ands "Under writers' Report" (no longer in existance). Mr. Crawford described and recounted personal profiles and anecdotes, some of which were included in a collection "Bunch Grass Days." tales from the turn of the century up to the time of the writing. Although he lived and worked in the San Francisco Bay Area from 1918 until his death he always remained devoted to Heppner and the "good old days." He attended the Morrow County Pioneer Picnic for years. He was also very interested int he Morrow County Historical Society. He was preceded in death by his brothers. Spencer, Jasper and William, and sisters, Vir ginia Turner and Mary Schwarz. Survivors include sons Ar thur R. Crawford, Jr. of San Jose, Calif., Raymond C. Crawford of Walnut Creek, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Jane Nervo of Healdsburg, Calif.; sisters Coramae Ferguson of Heppner Janet Jones of Wash ington and Margaret Hayes of Spokane, Wash.; four grand children; one great-grandchild: and many nieces and nephews. Memorial services and in urnment are planned in Hep pner at a later date. Maker Bakers work on garments By DEANNA CAREY For the last three to four weeks, the Maker Baker 4-H Club has been working on garments. Heppner IHS Sports Dessert slated The lone High School will be holding their annual winter sports dessert Tuesday, March 1. 7:30 p.m. at the high school cafeteria, announced Chuck Starr, principal. Everyone is invited to attend. Senior News A group of Kitty Coon's chorus students from Heppper High School will entertain with several musical numbers at the Heppner Senior Meal site on Wednesday. March 2. at the 12 noon meal. Also, free blood pressure testing will be given at the mealsite beginning at 11:15 a.m. by nurse Karen Thomas of Tri-County Home Health Agency. Any senior citizen desiring a noon carry out meal on Wed nesdays is asked to call Cber rie Clark. 676-5222. or Bill Collins. 676-9947. Wagon Trail cooks meet By PAULA HEATHERLY The Wagon Trail Cooks met recently and President Nancy Taylor opened the meeting. The group had oven chicken, baked potapes, rolled biscuits and glazed carrots. The Wagon Trail Cooks have been talking about the "Fun With Children Book." Mem bers of the club will read stories to children and work with finger puppets and a lot ' of other fun things. Nancy Taylor will be giving a demonstration on measur ing. The next meeting was to be held February 22. Some of the people in the group are almost finished with their garments. If it hadn't been for our leader. Chloe Pearson, we wouldn't have been able to be so successful. The next meeting will be held Thursday, March 3. February 14, 1983 Engagements Prater Gilbert Mikeal Pratter and Katliy Gilbert Mr. and Mrs. Robert Montgomery of Heppner announce the engagement of their daughter Kathy Gilbert to Mikeal Prater, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gene W. Prater. Nampa. Idaho. The bride-elect is a graduate of lone High School and Blue Mountain Community College. She is employed with the Internal Revenue Service in Boise. Idaho. Prater is in the petroleum business in Nampa, Idaho. The couple plans to be married on April 30 in Reno, Nevada and will be making their home in Nampa. Idaho. Cutsforth Bellinger I Jerry Cutsforth and Ann Marie Bellinger Bob and Lou Ann Bellinger. Hermiston, announce the engagement of their daughter. Ann Marie, to Jerry Orville Cutsforth. He is the son of Fritz and Janice Cutsforth of Heppner. Ann Marie is a 19tto graduate of Hermiston High School and is currently attending Eastern Oregon State College. Jerry graduated fron Heppner High School in 17C and from Eastern Oregon State College in 1982 with a degree in Agri-Business. The couple is planning an April 16 wedding at the First Christian Church in Hermiston. Carbon If1. ; Clint Carlson and Sarah Wilcox Sarah Katherine Wilcox of Central Point and Clinton Robert Carlson of lone announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage. Miss Wilcox is the daughter of Dr. Robert F. and Joanne Wilcox. Central Point. She is a 1979 graduate of Medford Senior High School and a senior in science education at Oregon State University. Carlson is the son of Louis A. and Betty Carlson of lone. He is a 1978 graduate of lone High School and a 1983 graduate of Oregon State University. He is a wheat and cattle rancher with 4C Ranches, lone. The couple will be married July 2 at St. Marks Episcopal Church in Medford. Christian Women's Club to meet The Heppner Christian Wo men's Club will be meeting March 1 at 6:45 p.m. in the Degree of Honor Hall, said a spokesperson. Sheriffs Report The Morrow County sher iff's office at the Morrow County Courthouse in Heppner handled the following calls, cases and reports iluriiitf the past week: On February 14. a Board man ambulance responded at S pm. to a call on N.W. Boardman Ave. A person with breathing difficulties was transported to Good Shepherd Hospilnl in Hermiston. Also on February 14, Meryl Edward Fenstermaker of Idaho was arrested by a Boardman police officer for a'legedly negotiating bad checks. In another February 14 inci dent, a Morrow County depu ty, a Boardman officer assis ted the Oregon State Police with traffic control at an injury accident on Interstate 84 at Highway 730. On February 15. George liuis Lytle of Boise. Idaho was arrested by a Morrow County sheriff's deputy for an alleged DUN and Open Con tainer. He posted bail and was released. On February 17, Jose San chez of Boardman was arres ted by a Boardman police officer for alleged Harrass ment and lodged in the Uma tilla City Jail. On February 18. the Corps of Engineers. Heppner. reported the theft of gravel valued at SfiO. On February 19. a Board man ambulance responded to a call at a residence on Olson Road. A subject with breath ing difficulties was transpor ted to Good Shepherd Hospital in Hermiston. Also on February 19. Kirk Ieroy Robinson of Heppner was arrested on a warrent from Umatilla Police Dept. for allegedly failing to appear on traffic court, by a Morrow County sheriff's deputy. He posted bail and was released. On February 20. Joleen Un der of Irrigon reported a theft of a boy's 12 speed bike. A Morrow County sheriff's 4 deputy took the report. Also on February 20, a Heppner ambulance respon ded to a call at Cat's Lounge. A patient was transported to Pioneer Memorial Hospital. In another February 20 inci dent. Ivan G. Driver of Irrigon reported the theft of a Smith and Wesson and an Auto Ru ger hand gun, combined value of $700. A Morrow County sheriff's deputy took the re port. Also on February 20, James Henigan of Boardman repor ted a theft of miscellaneous tools, cash, and car keys, valued at $530. A Morrow County sheriff's deputy took the report. On February 21. a Heppner ambulance transported a male patient complaining of chest pains from his residence in Heppner to Pioneer Mem orial Hospital. Juniptr, E W. Ella. I ne Gooseberry, Big Butter Creek and Myers. Culverts were cleaned on the Airport Road and the Don Turner Road. New culverts were installed on the Hughes Hirl Road, Pine City to Lena Road and Myers Road. Gravel was spread on Paul Tews Road. Bergevine and Ella roads Roads that were bladed were: Holtz. Gar Swanson. B. McLaughlin and Kincaid -Holtz. Shoulder work was done on Pine City to Lena Road. lone Boardman Road. Baseline, Myers and Ella roads.
